A work friend of my wife has invited us to her sons wedding celebration tonight. I have never met the bloke or his bride to be. The only people my wife and I will know there are the grooms parents.

I do not want to go, it is about 25 miles from where we live which will mean a fortune on taxis. I know I will have a miserable time and "ruin" it for my wife.

How do I persuade my wife that going there is a bad idea?

Feign Illness - hayfever? Failing that - take the dog out for a walk and pretend you got lost..

Just go and get **** faced then you might not get invited to a wedding that you won't want to go to. Hth.

Well just used the mother not being well as an excuse. Not too far from the truth, I m sure I saw some hooded bloke with a scythe and spindly fingers hanging round her room last time I visited her. Got to go visit her tonight as punishment for telling porkies.
