View Full Version : laptop power conector broken
Any recomendations for who can fit a new power conection to our Aspire 5471g.
Closer to essex the better
Had to scrap my last laptop because power connector got broken by my children! Tried everything to get it sorted but no one was interested.
yes minimum £100 to look at round hear.
Cant get its dam lid of to fix it my self ahh.
I tried too, but was way too scary! Have been told since there could be screws under certain keys!!!! Don't think they are designed for punters to open up! and in fact designed to make sure we can't !

Keyboard on laptops are normally held in by wedge shaped clips round the edge which you push in, it can be fiddly to push all of them in at once to get it off, once you have tho just disconnect the keyboard plug and you can see all the screws.
Laptop keyboards are on completer unit much like a desktop one.
As Dr Mc Coy said "Its worse than that .it's dead Jim".
Hinge broke away from plastic base. This shorted the power connector to the cpu fan. Big coppery blob on fan housing.
Ah I thought look on e bay for one with broken screen(seams to happen on lots of laptops. Search same model . Loads have meet same fail.
New one on its way. (Plus a usb enclosure for old drive )Not an Acer that's for sure.
fixed a few in my time and come to the conclusion that soldering the leads from a trialling socket onto the motherboard then out the back was the best remedy after doing a few. you have to be careful what socket you get as some laptops have jack sensing sockets.
Well by the time you cost new case . Cpu fan connector and the real chance its toasted the battery and power supply .
Its not worth the risk.

Mine broke on my Acer. Really annoyed me because people had borrowed it and bent the connector while charging and within time, it broke.
****ing laptops suck.

Connector is cheap, and requires no soldering. (Assuming is a 5741)
There's a few vids around on disassembly, anyone with a bit of experience with laptops should be able to do it.
In your case, I'd list the screen assembly complete on ebay and get some money back if its properly fried itself.
Yep proper fried.
The service manager one did the same he said. More smoke. Dangerous design flaw .
There's a really good independent repair shop on the corner in Crouch Street, right by the traffic lights at the top of Balkerne Hill. They might be worth a call
Well might be worth just dropping to them.
But have a new one on its way. As long as I get David his homework back I'll be in the good books.
