View Full Version : My amusing accident.

I've finally decided to get off my ass!
I've started doing up my 125 and getting it all prepared for when I'm on the road (had it all powder coated as somebody fecked it up)
So I thought right CBT time then maybe big test.
1st part of the CBT - perfecto no mistakes
2nd (on the road) first hour was perfecto until...

I was at the front the entire time and I was doing everything smoothly and fine as I've drove a bike before until it got to a roundabout. I totally misjudged the turn, kept looking forward and before I knew it I was up the curb! Somehow I ended up in the air over my bike I jumped back down, grabbed it and SOMEHOW got control back and drove off again!
How I didn't come off... I will never know even the other learners were shocked.

Quite amusing really, I was laughing about it for an hour.
Shoulders fecking killing me though now. How I still passed... I will never know.

Going to go for my MODS soon I hope! So pedestrians on the pavement WATCH OUT!

Frankly, neither do I

Not wanting to sound like the old fart that I am, but thought the whole idea of the CBT was to show competence on the bike.

I know, I agree with you there.
I could of hit a passenger. I think it was because I stayed control and carried on without being upset or angry is why they passed me.

I have to say I agree with Teejayexc.

Were you going too fast on the roundabout?

I slowed down I just think I misjudged it and looked forward so I went straight forward and ended up in the air haha.

I won't let it bother me, It was a shock but it was nothing really compared to most bike accidents.

To stay in control really you had to be in control in the first place :smt003

I guess you were lucky this time which can account for a lot of near misses. Had you done the same thing at the same place in different conditions/a busier time of day/on a bigger bike things might not have turned out quite so rosy as I'm sure you'd realise. Best thing to do with any near miss is to take a step back and completely review the situation, and realise exactly what it was that caused your temporary loss of control and how you can prevent it happening again. You can fall off as many times as you like (not that I'm recommending it!), that's not an issue...falling off the same way twice is, however, just stupid :sunny:

EDIT: Oh I forgot to say, congrats on getting it despite your extra seat bouncing :)

Thanks! :)

Yeah I've thought about it today and I think ill practice on roundabouts a bit more and cross junctions.
I'm happy that I wasn't put off by it because lkle you said, it could of ended up ugly but the cars giving way stayed clear luckily.

It's not the end of the world just one of those things :)
Im sure most people have had scarier moments (I have for sure) it was properly very minor but when new to biking every little step out etc can get the old bottom valve twitching!

Ride safe! And most importantly enjoy.

CBT is compulsory basic TRAINING.

They'll make you ride longer if you're less competent and can refuse you a certificate if you're dangerous or useless but It's not pass/fail with major and minor faults like the proper tests, you can balls a few things up as long as you show general competence.

Yeah. I was dangerous on one part which was a junction. It was 50% my fault 50% the cars' I was ready to turn right, was a bit to close the oncoming lane but quickly moved to the centre but the cars went anyway even though they shouldn't have.
The tutor said I handled other quickly and I handled the situation good therefore he let it go. If I hadn't of reacted I would of failed.

Glad you're OK, and passed!
Just remember to look where you want the bike to go.

During my DAS we had progressed to the bandits...so had a day on the roads already, around lunch time we stop at a cafe/bike shop and the car park is on a fair old slope. Does the lad look for a flat bit to park? Nah, parks at 90° to the slope, then decided to get off the RHS of the bike, down hill!.

It was highly entertaining watching him rolling down the hill, and making it worse every time he tried to stand up.

Maybe you thought for a sec you were playing GTA before realizing you were on a CBT lol :-)

All that was needed is the Benny hill music and a video of you stunting the 125 :-)

Good luck in your other biking adventures though.......

Not too far, near Harwood. Aye I know the place, not been though. It wasn't that far from there where it happened actually, just down the main road.
