View Full Version : Insurance phone call out of the blue?

Just got a call from what I think was my current insurer. Now my insurance isn't due till end of August so I haven't even started looking around yet.

They quoted me £456 I think it was and said they could discount it to £378. After telling them I didn't want to jump into another contract without looking around first they added a further £110 discount which is only valid if I go with them now. Apparently to accept this quote with the discount I would have to either pay in full now a month before my insurance is even due or give them my account number and sort code.

I simply said I want to look around myself and I'm not happy paying in full or handing out my account number and sort code over the phone to supposedly my insurance company. (They read out all my details at the start of the call which were all correct)

Just a little weird, never had this before.

Sounds scammy, especially the 'you have ten seconds to decide' tactics.

give them a buzz and ask if you can get a price for your renewal. I'm surprised they called you and offered to take it up now. Most only seem to requote 2 weeks before

You always have a cooling off period for distant selling.

Swinton are pretty bad for pestering & pushy phone calls.

Give them a call to confirm

I haven't even had a look at what sort of prices I could get this year. I was quoted £249 last year by Swinton.

Just used Compare the Market to see what sort of quotes I should expect this year. Straight away I got a quote from Bennets fro £190 TPFT or £17 per month.

That sounds about right for Swintons

Did that with me, didn't take the full discount and screwed a decent roadside recovery out of them

I wasn't sure if they were my actual insurance company as I've never had a call like this from any other insurer before asking for me to pay in full now even though I still had over a month left on my current insurance.
