okay so i am going to be getting a Xbox tomor with component output.

my desktop screens have HDMI / DVI / VGA

all i want to do is get the picture on the screen as i can use optical output from xbox for sound. i dont want to spend £20+ on a converter (power).

am i correct in saying:

component ===> HDMI
analog ======> digital
(not possible by cheap wire)

component ===> DVI
analog ======> digital
(not possible by cheap wire)

component ===> VGA
analog ======> analog
(only solution)

or can i use my DVI input on my screen? any help with be aprecatied.

I'm sure you know, but you can use HDMI and optical at the same time. Or if you don't want sound on the tv you can use an HDMI to DVI cable

You can get a VGA cable for the Xbox and run HD resolutions on your desktop monitor. I did it for a while when my tv broke. Check Maplins, game etc.. For a VGA cable or eBay will be cheaper if your in no rush. If you get one that has a optical output you can use that too for sound.
