hey there fellow sv riders, I am reasonably new to riding and currently have a k6 shape sv650s fully faired. the main reason i made this thread is because I wanted some advice on what would happen if i replaced my stock headlights with HIDs H4 xenon lights off ebay. they claim to use 55/60watts. in terms of any potential risks

are you talking about heat damage, or the legal ramifications , and proper ballast driven HID, or just the bulbs labeled as HID ?

Jus those cheapie bulbs off ebay for £8 those claim to be HID not interms of legality but any damage done to the bike either through heat or electrics

in that case you'll be fine, they run no hotter than normal bulbs, and draw nothing the bike can't handle.

Cheers Mark.

They're also most definitely not HID.

Essentially the 'HID' bulbs have a similar colour temperature as Hid but nowhere near as bright. They also will probably not have decent UV filters which over time will yellow the plastic of the lens. Buy proper bulbs, the likes of Philips Xtreme or similar. I had a full HID system on my SV and removed it as it was far to glarey. After maker are fine in projector lamps. Either way after maker HID are not road legal.

As viney says, Philips xtreme are good (+80 or + 100). Osram nightbreakers also popular.
