talcum powder or antiperspirant deodorant failing that bung them in the washing machine and let air dry. remember to nourish the leather again with something like nivea hand cream.

My gloves never stink becuase i never have hot hands or sweaty hands as i always have a my summer gloves on unless its artic condidtions.
I recommend investing in a proper pair of breathable gloves for when the hot weather comes in this country
i have 3 pair of gloves 1 proper pair of summer summer glove si had for a long time mainly for cold weather / commuting to college then a proper pair of winter gloves as back up.

+1

TBH i dont like the feel - or lack thereof - that bulky winter styled gloves provide. So only wear them if my fingers are going to go numb from the cold.

There lies the problem. I only have one pair which I bought SECOND HAND and I wear them all year round (well almost, I've not even been riding a year yet!) :D

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle :D Bibs suggestions sound good to me in that case.

Although handwash perhaps before machine wash, then 30 degree machine wash 'hand wash' setting if poss.

One pair of mine did that when I had been riding in heavy rain. I have 3 pairs so have a spare.
They are to be thrown in the washing machine.
I couldn't get the smell off my hands for ages.

No harsh chemicals, extremes of heat, then renourish the leather. can't see any major problems

Never ever had a problem with stinky gloves, even when I was commuting in Winter and they were sat around in a locker for 12 hrs at a time festering in a wet heap.

Apart from the time I left a pair of damn good Halvarssons on the kitchen window ledge and someone opened the window and pushed them off and they fell in the kitchen sink drain, they got all the dirty dishwater, bits of food and mank poured inside them..............feck me, I never used them again

I wouldn't put leather gloves through the washing machine, hand wash if you must and as previously been said let them air dry in their own time, aqnd treat with beeswax and linseed oil, or as I use renpur (http://www.renapur.com/content/leather-balsam/).

but for a temporary solution if you haven't the time to wash and dry right then, a couple of teabags (if they are a bit damp) and one of those tumble dryer sheets stuffed inside for a few hours do a pretty good job.

Cheers Mark.

wonder if fridge fresheners would work.

Bag of silica gel?

or a few

You know the little sachets that say 'do not eat' when you get a new pair of shoes.

Baking soda in a clean pop sock. It works for other things like trainers so worth a try.

Work a treat.

Stuff about half a pound into each of a pair of socks... when your boots get p*ssed through you can stick those in and they suck up the moisture in about half an hour.
Just microwave the silica gel packs to dry them out :)

Freeze them, overnight. Job done. Its bacteria that cause the smell and this kills them, kills them all!!!!

I know it's time to get more gloves... I've got several pairs of weight lifting gloves, several pairs of cycling gloves, several pairs of mountaineering gloves and only one pair for my motor! My bad! I have been meaning to get some for quite some time; I keep looking on ebay for something I like. Must visit HG soon too before they close.
The gloves I have are more winter style and I wore them all through the heat wave... yuck :/

Good luck with your searching! I go through hell trying to find decent gloves, if they're not pink they're armourless/leatherless and just pure rubbish, clearly all made for lasses who wish to sit on the back and look pretty in pink.. no thanks! I've opted for Held, got them from Get Geared and they're great, I wore them through winter and still wearing through summer, just the one pair and they don't whiff at all. I haven't washed them once though they do get the odd rain soaking so same principle...and I just make sure they dry out properly.

Had a similar problem recently, reckoned it was the high humidity preventing the gloves drying out between rides. Did a search on here and it was suggested putting Bicarbonate of Soda in them and leaving for a couple of days. I did so and they dont smell any more... but getting the BoS back out was a different story.

In answer to the headline question... Like satan's hellhole. At least sometimes. I tend to use lined waterproof gloves year round. In summer they somtimes get a bit sweaty and so stink. In winter they sometimes just don't dry off fully overnight and so stink. Actually, the seasons don't make much difference!

Tried freezing- agree the science but not the results.
Tumble drier sheets are good as a temp fix/mask.
Washing gently (by hand) with bicarb of soda and a good long dry probably worked best... For a while!
I believe you can buy boxing glove spray that is meant to be good.

Failing all that, just learn to love the stench. Or buy summer gloves, and maybe love the stench too!!

I remember a while back I did a boxing course and we used the gloves that we used by maaany people for a looong time......
took days to wash it off my hands!!!!!
