Recently bought an SV650s and just stumbled upon this forum for Guildford SV owners.
Are there any people willing to go on a ride and give me a few tips as its my first big bike?
Cheers,
Tim
Hey Tim congratulations! I'm in the same position as you, bought mine last week as my first big bike and simply love it. I'm based in Reigate not far from Guildford and would be up for a ride out some time.

Hi guys, not many people here actually from guildford itself but those of us in the area are often found lurking round loomies down the A3 on wednesday nights and normally riding at some point every weekend or so.

Well if anyone from the guildford-ish area is up for a ride this evening I'm game?
Welcome mate, hopefully you'll have more luck on your sv than i did :D

We're always up for a ride out chap. None of us are elitist in anyway. We were all noobs not so long ago, and often ride with plebs with restricters, people who've dropped their bikes more times than a child who's just had his stablizers taken off, people who've crashed a plenty and can't get over 10mph, and those that are living on borrowed time (you know who you all are). Happy to organise a little jaunt somewhere near guildford and go for a gentle bimble with you newbies whenever.
you could of just named me if you'd wanted too :P

If you still want to ride with them then good luck :p
Seriously though, welcome from an outsider :smt006

Welcome Tcochrane!:D Always up for a blast, although I do tend to ride like my hairs on fire! I think Fallouts comment about borrowed time may have been directed at me!:smt117
Could manage a bijou bimble within half hour of Aldershot tonite but I think Loomies tomo' may be a better bet!

Thank you all for such a warm welcome!
Unfortunately the weather looks a bit down tonight so gonna give tonight's ride a skip, though just went up to Newlands Corner to see if anyone's up there, but alas no :(
Anyway, will definitely come along to Loomies tomorrow evening! Should I expect to see many SV riders there?
Can't do tonight or tomorrow Tim, but I'm free after Friday evening onwards. Weather looks good for the weekend too. ;)

Probs gonna be a couple but most are ex sv owners or have more than one bike, but they'll all be happy to give advice/opinions/help!
Welcome! I am generally up for a ride most evenings if it not too moist.
Watch out for the guys pretending to be on restricted bikes, they seem to be able to go quite fast at times :smt082

I haven't admitted anything, I was merely stating what a few others think of such bikes ;)

Whoever this person is with an unrestricted bike is very naughty. Luckily, they also have a fecked front spark plug, so they probably only have 33bhp anyway.
well if it was as fast as that tractor on Sunday the blues n twos won't suspect a thing

you do know that turning your bike into a thumper occasionally doesn't count as restricted right?

Welcome to the org! As said we were all newbs at some point, unfortunately/fortunaty for some of us it's a distant memory.
If you like I could go riding with you and make you look well good. I haven't had a weekend off for 9 weeks but I'm around during the week. Has anyone been up though Dorking around box hill since the sexy smooth Olympic tarmac was put down?

No mate, when you gonna get on one of these here rideouts?\\:D/
Based on tonight's observations I recon Tim's a ringer! No way he's got a 7 day license. I suspect he's an undercover rozzer sent to keep an eye on us.

He's young. Young people learn fast. It's us old nobbers that take 10 times longer to figure out how to do new things.
Dont forget i am younger than him :)

Then stop helping him speed up!!
We don't need him closer, he'll see more infringements.
Tim, ride for yourself not to keep up! You'll learn that the nutters blast off into the distance. As Mark says, it's all about having fun, you all end up at the same place and not far apart

You do learn really fast with quicker riders though. Spank will testify to that riding with our mate Rich. If you ride by yourself, you'll improve much slower than following quicker riders (talking about pace here, not safe riding). But listen to Dad ... I mean Mark_H's advice to temper lunacy with sense. :)

Definitely, My ridings improved immeasurably this year.
The trick is to follow the quicker rider but not be afraid to drop back if its TOO quick.
Everyones got different bikes, different tyres, and different abilities so even if two of those are the same the third may mean you're a bit slower on a corner with the same level of safety.

Also different levels of bravery/stupidy. Take yesterday for example. I could've gone faster round all those bends when leading on the fast bit, but my clenching butt cheeks were holding me back. If we ride that a couple more times so I know the corners, I'll open it up a bit more.
BUT, some people would annihilate that first time. Can't help thinking they have a substantially higher chance of burning through the pearly gates though.

Or the way I always think about it .....
