Im getting issues with my bike alarm according to the installation manual its a issue with the 'negative trigger input wire' which according to my powers of deduction is connected to a red switch under the seat. But it's just one cable. I thought a switch would have 2. (is it a crude wire to frame continuity switch? so the spade touches the underside thereby closing the circuit?)

So i've found that wiggling this 'switch' activates the alarm sound. But i can't fathom out how it works. When i activated the alarm before the fault occured the indicators would flash now they dont. According to the manufacturers guide this is where the fault should be located in that scenario. I expect this switch to be pressed down when i fit the seat cowl but according to the next pic there is nothing that would do this.

I usually store stuff wedged into the cowl so i suspect this was pushing down the switch & im sure the alarm was fitted when i still had the rear seat fitted. Ive tried setting the alarm by pushing down that switch myself but it aint working like it should. I'm lost in what should be a very simple fix.

The immobiliser still operates though!, light flash output doesnt & that makes me think that somethings grounded & blown the fuse on that circuit (which i havent checked yet!)

Yes your switch will just be a crude switch that gets earthed as it springs up. maybe it needs cleaning up. Your instructions and diagram suggest wire 8 that goes to the indicators is fused, suggest find and check that.

The switch 'may' connect through to negative via the frame with the switch activating in the 'up' position 'pulling' the alarm wire down to negative.

I can never remember if bikes are wired like cars so I am probably completely wrong . . . .

Was there a proper seat on the bike when the alarm was fitted?

Yup deffo my 1st step. I wonder what the little bracket was supposed to be for before they fitted that switch btw.

As the negative trigger input is a "bonus" item, I would disconnect the wire from the switch, tape it up and get everything else working as you expect. The risk is that this means that the alarm, once armed, won't trigger if someone forces the seat cowl off.

Later, once you're happy the rest of the alarm is behaving OK (slim chance the main unit could be knackered?) you can concentrate on recommissioning the switch (give it a good clean like Tigersaw suggests and check continuity - it should be open circuit when pressed and closed when sprung up) and putting some extra bracketry in the cowl to push down the switch when it's fitted.

Fuses are fine. Im going to check the earths arent cruded. Plus ill check that it sends power into the fuse before the diode for the lights in case the diodes went bang.
