Well I had thoroughly novel and concerning experience en route. There I was riding along, steady line of traffic, keeping the average distance from the car in front, minding my own business when a van behind me starts to beep. I'm thinking I've not done anything so I ignore him. He carries on and proceeds to shout all kinds of profanities. Still puzzled. No idea what I'm supposed to have done. I hear something about me being too slow, which was truly baffling as I was about one or two car lengths from the car in front of me so not sure where I was supposed to speed up... Felt nervous cos he could hit me on purpose which he looked like he was capable of easily. Not to mention his van was full of kids watching him shout all kinds of names at me. At the nearest opportunity I made swift progress forward; wanted to get as far away from this mad man. So he was suck some ten cars behind me and not going any faster. Truly, truly bizarre.....

Get a louder exhaust, can't get bothered about what you can't hear ;)

There are to$$pots all over the place, least you know you can get away from them on the bike!

I was just gobsmacked at how bizarre it was! It's not like I was going slow. I was in a line of traffic, small ish/narrow road so I stuck with everyone rather than filter. As soon as I was able to break away I did. I truly cannot understand as he wouldn't be able to go any faster even if I wasn't there as there was a line of cars. Just a madman. Nothing more nothing less. And the kids in his van...... jeeze!

I always slow down and start waving people into the gap in front of me.

Then when there's a nice new long line of cars and the person behind is going mental I turn round, give a cheery wave and filter off into the distance.

I'll play nice if there's do but if you annoy me I'll waste some time letting you know the consequences.

Probably just wanted an excuse to take his frustration all those kids were causing out on someone and you were in the wrong place at the wrong time  Least you didn't get too annoyed to cause a confrontation like some folk might have done, he probably just wanted a reaction from you.

The thing is, there was no gap for him to go into. That's what's so strange about his anger

I did shout back at him about tailgating and he was just doing the "tossing" gesture with his hand out of his window. Classy!
I decided to calm down cos it's not worth it. If I ride angry it may affect my judgement so I let it go. In the end I overtook everyone as soon as I was able to and he was left faaaar behind....

Some people are just crazy.

They think that moving a few foot forwards makes a difference.

Most important thing is not to get angry yourself, just smile and treat it all as a game. Getting angry will just ruin your afternoon.

I did shout back at him about tailgating and he was just doing the "tossing" gesture with his hand out of his window. ....

This is usually because pillocks like this think the rider is indeed male.

I had a problem once with an Audi driver. I left a set of lights, rode through the corner to the lane I wished to park at the next lights. Unfortunately, Mr Audi man was impatient and wanted to beat the next set(they always turn red before you get there)....he nearly took my leg off trying to bully his way through. I did get a bit angry, and pointed at him, in a pointy way ;)

He got out of his car and started to shout, rant and rave, then he noticed the pink camo draggin jeans, and a set of mascara clad lashes, and I was very naughty and said

'Get back in your car you fat ignorant 'tw4t' (****')

He did :takeabow:

Tis weird how folk tend to back off when they realise they're winding up a lass not a lad. Probably reduces the potential element of "a good fight" and they slink off disappointed. I had it the other week, someone was speeding in a 20mph zone up a narrow road and I'd stopped to let him pass. It was a slight uphill in his direction so technically his right of way but as I'd stopped and shook my head 'cos of his speed, the scrote decided to pull up when level with me and shout "Well it wer my righter way wannit!" As soon as I spoke back he beggared off, maybe it's a known fact men shouldn't argue with women, it's a waste of his time and mine

agy
12-08-12, 06:39 PM
If I could let him pass just so he could **** off I would have done but even if I did, he wouldn't advance any further as there were lots of cars in front. I just stumbled across a madman who hates bikes and prob didn't get laid for quite some time.

Many a biker also owns a van. It aint van drivers, it aint bikers. It is the usual problem.

For some reason the DVLA gives licences to kn0bs. You don't have to be one to get one, but if you are it makes you the most perfect driver on the road who would never make a mistake. The reason I got back into bikes all those years ago was 50,000 mile a year on the road caused me so much stress I ended up in hospital. Now so long as I am happy I couldn't give a flying ferk what anyone else thinks.

A chilled rider, driver is a happy one.Be one of the happy people, smile and think ignorant *******. and then carry on regardless.

What a n00b, honestly.
You did the right thing to ignore him though.

Thing is, its all alright giving them grief back or giving them the finger but some drivers out there don't give two shi*s if they knock you off in anger or not.

I reckon he rides himself, overtakes everything in sight, and is the sort of person who likes belittling everyone else who he perceives as weaker (i.e. females, small guys, kids) because of his micropenis and/or shame at having such a horrible pathetic life. There are loads of them. No reasoning or understanding possible. They're basically bitter anusholes and you were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I still reckon a hand grenade should be standard kit on a motorbike. Drop besides him, lob it through the window, job done.

You had the option to filter, he didn't and couldn't understand why you weren't out there going head to head with the oncoming traffic. He's a knøb in a van, he'd be an even bigger knøb on a bike.

Just filter 1 car up the queue and leave him with his anger management problems.

I had a very similar encounter of a psycho a week or two back, was in a 40mph zone, van in front doing about 30, i proceeded to overtake rather legitimately, as i passed him he was yelling all sorts of abuse at me (i assume, couldn't actually hear him over my can) and giving his best hand gestures.

Thought nothing of it, pulled up at a Zebra crossing half a mile down the road to allow pedestrians to cross, rather impatiently he begins revving up, so gave him a quick glance over the shoulder, he then proceeded to start nudging my back wheel!!

Must be something in the air as i got road raged last night
Making progress near the white line when the guy coming towards me swerved towards the white line
I pulled up he edged to within 1cm of my bike with a good 2ft of clear room on the other side of his car
I just sat there let him work out his frustration revved the engine started to get off and then he thought better of it and drove off
I put it down to him being an idiot!
Job done

I'll admit I often wonder if certain drivers will do that when I've overtaken them and then been caught at traffic lights. Not had it yet but at least I know my wonderings do happen so pays to be cautious!

I find it all quite entertaining, at least until one of the muppets actually hurts me...

Friday I was out with the missus on the back, start of the journey was along a rather busy motorway. Traffic was flowing okay at around 60 when everyone started braking hard. I had enough of a gap between me and the BMW in front to be able to brake (pretty hard) but comfortably when I hear the screech from behind. By the time I turn to look round, the guy in the Astra behind is on the horn and remonstrating at me. Not to mention literally 10 inches from my back tire, with the sweet smell of burning rubber in the air.

Apparently it was my fault for braking hard, not his for leaving not enough gap. I let him roll up beside, shout a little while I smiled and gave him the thumbs up, then let him know that next time I would be sure to plough into the car in front as to not inconvenience him again...

T**t...

Yes . It is worrying but on the bike you can sneak up the gap when you hear it.
You just wait for the bang in the car.(uesusly at the Witham A12 turn off. 3 times 2 cars written off).

Sounds to me like a pikey (traveller). We've got loads of them in this area and they all treat the roads like they own them and everyone else as scum they can cut up and intimidate. Seriously, you would not believe the appalling driving I witness outside my shop from them every single day. Trouble is they all have good memories and mobile phones. You upset one and you've got half of County Cork wanting to either tarmac your driveway, or sell you dags and lucky heather.... you'll never get rid of the b'stards or beat them, so best thing is to either get well out of their way and let them pass, or turn off and wait for them to carry on the way they were going.

Occasionally they will follow someone for fun and sport, so take to a pedestrian area they can't get a van full of kids down, but never ever stop for them or give them abuse.

16-08-12, 07:51 AM
Lozzo that explains a lot!

God how I detest tailgaters!!! One of these days I will literally get off the bike and start the fight!!!!!! He basically was sitting on my a**e and couldn't understand why I was leaving a gap between me and the car in front. How can anyone be THAT stupid!!! Surely you don't need a hell of a lot of intelligence to reason that a gap must exist between two vehicles AAARRGGHHH!!! MAKES ME MAD!!!! I think anyone caught tailgating should get points on their licence! It's as dangerous as drink driving!

Definitely true. I used to be a lot worse, when I first started commuting on a bicycle in London a few years ago. I since became much more zen. I think blokes just react better to it and don't get as intimidated. It happens to me quite alot but I tend to switch off to it and carry on my merry way unbothered - as my mate Champ says "What's behind doesn't matter"

Every time I get on the bike I put my head in the 'every car driver is as worried about scratching his/her car as I am about being knocked off' mode - it helps me relax and ignore bad driving and also it makes everything I do acceptable when reacting to being bullied on the road. A quick swing of the boot towards a door is usually enough to put paid to someone getting too close or pushing you into the kerb - it's very rare you get a negative reaction that could give you grief. 99% of the time the car driver will back off and treat you like a mental case who is out to kill them, which is a big bonus in my book.

Around our way their favorite sport driving their Transits is playing chicken with cyclists, I've had one go the wrong side of a traffic island head on at me to "play", they always swerve back at the last minute though, so far8-[. Best thing is to ignore them they're just after a reaction.

I had a guy tailgating me on the A1 just before the M1 Junction. Car was right up my **** while in single file traffic so I pulled back from the car infront to give myself a little bit more room (was only a car and a 1/2 maybe 2 car lengths space) and the guy behind start beeping his horn and swearing at me. Wasn't really anything I could do so kept on at a continued pace. Got onto the motorway and stayed in the inside lane as wasn't in any hurry to get anywhere and next thing I know he pulls up next to me and is in the window sticking his fingers up, giving me the W*nker sign and pointed at me and ran his finger along his throat.... I laughed at waved back at which point he swerved into my lane slightly to try and scare me, I just applied the brakes to drop back, pulled into the outside lane and overtook him while waving at him. He tried to follow then got stuck in traffic while i Filtered my way off. After about 5 mins I pulled back into inside lane and slowed down and thought nothing of it...... next thing I know the idiot is back cuts infront of me and starts slamming his brakes on and speeding up. I made a hasty exit off the motorway at the next junction when it was too late for him to come off waited for 5 mins and carried on my journey.

There are some serious idiots on the road, I've already learnt to just ignore them and get on with it.... and is its also the main reason I have got myself a helmet camera.

Just thought i'd share another road rage incident that had a rather happy ending on my part.

Driving up M1 yesterday cruising along in Traffic at 70mph in the middle lane as was passing a junction when a complete muppet in a Black Lexus comes flying onto the Motorway and tries to cut from inside to outside via the space I was occupying... He see's me last minute and pulls back into his lane and starts beeping his horn and waving at me to get out of his way... Not a whole lot I could do as I wasn't slamming my brakes on for this idiot so shrugged at him and carried on as if nothing had happened.... then to my utter horror he slams his brakes on and swerves into my lane just missing my rear wheel by about an inch :smt103 I very nearly gave into panic and froze at this point as genuinely thought I was coming off and over his car but no, I'm still here.......

So next he pulls up on my right hand side giving me all sorts of hand gestures, so I replied and stuck my fingers up at him :smt067... at which point he swerved into my lane and pointed at the hard shoulder.... I was happy to oblige having thought he was actually going to kill me at one point..... Pulled up took my helmet and gloves off only to have a big fat guy grab my jacket and get all up in my face screaming at me :smt092.... I stayed nice and calm but was steadily getting more and more worked up to the point where I was on the verge of punching him but out of the corner of my eye saw a back car pull in with red and blue lights flashing..... he instantly let me go and backed away then started mouthing off a the police about me cutting him up and causing him hassle on the road. They politely told him to shut up, asked for both our drivers licences and wrote the details down. They then asked me If I would be happy to appear in court if required as they saw everything and were going to charge him with reckless and dangerous driving... His face :pale: my face :smt040 I agreed and they sent me on my way while they dealt with him..... fun times :)
