View Full Version : Gel seat?

On the SV, the pillion seat was the most un-comfortable seat imaginable. After doing 100+mile (stops along the way) my ass felt like it was going to break.
Luckily, new GS isn't as bad but still aches... think its to do with my bony ass.
Do gel seats improve this and actually are comfortable?
How much would they be available for online roughly?
Thank you x

Wear some cycling shorts with some padding in them underneath your leathers. It works and is cheaper than expensive saddles.

Hmmm never thought of that... I can't stop chuckling at the thought of me with cycling shorts on!
get a wheat bag about the same size of the pillion seat and stitch some Velcro to it so you can wrap the Velcro under the seat to attach the wheat bag. gel pads are good but not that good. the problem i find with gel pads is they start to sag in the middle as the day goes on which pushes the gell out towards the edge creating a ridge that sits right under your thigh and after a while causes your legs to go numb as well as your ass.
i have no option but to use a gel pad straight on top of the seat pan with no foam under it and its ok for 40-50 miles at a time. with foam under it i can stretch this to about 60-70 miles.

I think bum implants may be a nice option.
the gel pads i use are the large ones of these

Just get a fat ar$e and that'll solve all of this and give plenty cushioning :-)

Just man up and keep going out on the bike, you'll get used to it

Don't Airhawk do a cushion suitable for the GS? I've been using one on the 650 and it works for pillion or rider.

I've been told they are good.
They're very pricy though.

Comfort is money :)
Do you count £150 for a blow up cushion as being ripped off?

Would you call £3,000 for big wobbly boobs a rip off?

I think that if I wanted to know where to buy a GS1200 gel seat without being ripped off and somebody offered me big wobbly boobs for £3000, I'd probably call them a bit strange.
I like proper boobs, the way boobs should be, all booby.

Wel on that subject, the Airhawke is a few quid but you can use it on any bike and should last a good while. Makes a massive difference to comfort.
It also means you bounce around less on the bike so you have less wobbly boobs, at least while riding.
