oil everywhere.. dropped the whole lot out in about 2 seconds.. on the CAR ... Alfa 147
piece of metal off the bottom of the sump about half a dinner plate size on the road..
dam !!
not goin fast- speed bump in bad repair dont use the road just happened along it tonight.. the white arrows on the speed bump are worn out and it is full of pot holes and lowers the approach... I know i stand no chance off the council as I tried to claim for an alloy 2 years back in a pot hole... life is just crap0
can a sump be "welded" ? as i have the piece? or is it an expensive jobby?
looks to me like new second hand sump circa £50 and if its up on a lift it just bolts on.. simples.. am I wrong?

I've welded a sump.
Once.
Never never never again.
Should be plenty blown up alfa engines to find a spare from anyway.

I'm amazed they turned out at all Dave. Usually spills are a council issue. As for the call taker, its only a matter of time until you get through to a call centre in outer mongolistan or similar. Try explaining Sainsbo's to them!

worse thing was AA
called them..
its classed as an accident they say .. we only come to mechanical failure.. we can come but it will be £105 charge to take you to the garage!/ I say what do I pay my premium for and that I confirmed with them b4 I took the cover out that I was covered for accidents. cos I was concerned re the bike..
I told then stuff it.. rang a mate and told them he will tow me.. because of them and that oil will then be spilt all over the roads from the "accident" to my preferred garage..... told the police this too.. they werent that bothered and helped us push car to set up the tow rope.

I think the real accident is all those moped riders in their shorts and flip flops sliding on that leak!
Not great that Quiff, I keep forgetting that our rollerskate doesn't quite go over speed bumps the same as the Landy does, I keep looking in the mirror to see if I've left the exhaust behind!

daddy.... there was oil from the speed hump and about 100 yards down the road to the front of my car and a massive pool of oil in front of my car- me thinks they would have worked it out
but at least they would be there to tow you home ;)

Why do you think you can't claim for this quiff ?
Of course they will try and deny it and wriggle out but that's why you become persistent and don't give up.
Get photos taken of the road, speed hump and the damage to your car ASAP.
It sounds like a easy claim to me, just be prepared to take no for an answer for a bit at first.

Sorry to hear about you wrecking your 147.
I was always worried about speed bumps in my 156, I had a veloce, so, the lowered "sports" suspention, which is great until you get to a town with speed bumps and then it is sump/bump roulette.
Managed to never wreck mine, but, I imagine you have got a 1.6ltr twinny? They have sumps like paper mache

I'd try to claim from teh council as well. I'm currently in the minor hell of trying to claim for a couple of busted tyres and yes they are trying to get out of it, very hard. That day the AA screwed me too, left my wife, hungry baby and geriatric father in a car with 3 wheels (it normally has 4) on a jack in the middle of nowhere while I was taken to find a new tyre they hadn't even rung around to locate. For two hours. 10 miles from home, and we do have relay etc. They cared not a jot. I'm not with them any more.
Good luck mate, hope it hasn't screwed anything else in the engine

I would think the sump is easy on one of them.
I'm guessing you just get it up on some axle stands, undo 10-15 bolts around the edge of the sump, remove (you may need something to prize it off if it's put on with liquid gasket), replace and do up bolts.
Just do a bit of Googling to find out if there is a gasket or not, if there is, get a gasket, if not get some liquid gasket.
I have a feeling there is no skid plate in the way or this wouldn't have happened.
: )
Or you could drive it down to mine and I'll help ya :clown:

claim off the council, i got 120 quid for a stone in my new tyre!
At least you stopped driving, unlike the owner of a what was newish* VN1500 that did the same thing, thought it would be ok to travel the 5 or so miles home
As for the AA, typical  its why am with the other lot
*Not so new now, insurance write off and was still on finance
