View Full Version : Well now I've gone and done it.

After nearly two years of being employed and spending 70% to 80% of my working week down south, I finally decided to quit.
A typical week involved a 4am, 200 mile drive down to London or Essex on a monday and returning late thursday/friday and on the odd occasion, saturday night.
Felt like I was paying for a house I wasn't living in and more importantly, being in a relationship with someone I hardly ever saw.
Staying away in hotels is o.k for the first few times, a novelty I guess. But always having to share a room soon removes that novelty.
I enjoyed the job and after all, the reason I took full-time employment was to gain a bit of financial security and a regular income.
My last day at work was friday and as of Monday this week I am a self-employed Private Investigator running Venit Investigations.
I know a few people on here have started their own Businesses and gone down the self-employed route, lets hope it goes well for all of us :)
Thanks
Si
EDIT: If anyone fancies helping with the website (in return for actual pounds sterling) please get in touch :)
Good luck mate, hope it goes well for you :D
Sounds like you've weighed up the difference between standard of living and quality of life. Good luck with the new life.

Very best of luck. Always impressed (and a little jealous) when people make that leap.

Agree with you on the living in a hotel comment - no fun at all after the second week and not something I will do again.
Best of luck on the job front.

How will we know if you've become a tramp or are working undercover?

Fair point, if i'm a tramp hopefully i'll be drinking meths out of a brown paper bag.
LOL, thats the dream of every tramp!

Important note for all wannabe tramps!
Don't drink meths out of a brown paper bag! The bag goes all soggy and spoils the delicate flavour of the meths....
If you smoke at the same time you may feel a warm glow on the outside as well as the inside too!

Well done mate. A good friend of mine is in this line of work and makes a very good living out of it.

I've done a similar thing at work, spent 5 months just eatin breakfast, commute to office, work, commute, eat evening meal, sleep.
Repeat for 5 days. Whilst staying in digs.
Returned to my old job after 5 months, back in the sticks, never regretted it once.
There's more to life than work..
Good luck with your new venture and seeing more of your GF

Well said. As long as you're happy and healthy with enough pennies to keep you ticking over in the lifestyle you so choose then that's all that matters in my eyes.

Thanks Mavic, not after making a fortune, just as long as I can keep me head above water and keep her indoors happy!

Thanks Mavic, not after making a fortune, just as long as I can keep me head above water and keep her indoors happy!
I'm very fortunate to have done the jobs I've done in my lot & I've been here 32 years.
I've seen the ones who want to climb the ladder and it requires sacrificing a lot, and at the end of their days, they'll say what have I done with my life :-?
Not for me
I'll work my bollox off and often do, but I know that I'm happy with my lot, I don't want to jump up to the next step.
If you've got enough coming in, with enough to do the things that you want to do, then be happy with your lot, if you've got more than enough then be thankful, plenty of folk don't.
Sure I've hard my hard times, when I got my first house & money was tight, but I was probably happier then. :-?
Choose life & live it, its the only one you'll get ( maybe :D)

All the best in your new venture.
Being self employed has it's ups and downs but mostly ups.
Hope everything works out well for you and it's a prosperous business.
