View Full Version : Is it worth it?

So I am going to the states next week, and will have to hire a car for a few days. I have the option to hire a mustang for a bit more than a "Sub-compact Hyundai Accent or similar".

Any opinions?

You really need to ask?

The few quid more is about the point where I start sucking my teeth.

Oh look. The 16oz t-bone steak is £16 pounds, but this lettuce salad is much cheaper at £12. I wonder which one I should choose? ;)

OK ok. I can't use this arguement with Mrs Clunk, she'd probably pick the salad.

I'm with... Everybody as it turns out.

Fallout's on the money here. The only worthwhile poll would have been if the choice was between the mustang & charger...

Its worrying you're actually debating about it!

Not sure if you have already checked this out but whenever I have hired a car in the States the price quoted didn't include insurance or if it did it was only 3rd party.

Make sure you check that the insurance doesn't make it more than a little bit more.

I mean get the Stang anyway, it just might be a bit more than you thought.

Book the boring one and ask for an upgrade when you collect! I booked a boring saloon for 2 weeks, offered an upgrade at the airport and bartered with them -started at $100 per week then ended at $25 per week to get a v.big SUV. The yanks are panicking that gasoline is close to $5.00 a gallon ((75p a litre ish), so falling out of love with big V8's.

I have a Charger. :D

Out of that lot,
Yep, get the Mustang.

Yeah it was more one of those confirmation for the choice you've already made. Plus the overwhelming poll should help the cause with Mrs Clunk.

Just tell her the make up(vanity) mirror in the Mustang is bigger - sorted.

Personally, if its only for a few days then fine but if youre gonna be there a while, dont bother, it will drink fuel at an alarming rate and if youre in a heavy traffic area, you wont get much chance to enjoy it.

Also, the police are a lot stricter on speeding and are sneaky b'stds.

Btw, go a decent all you can eat buffet, the food will be cheaper and just as nice :)

Oh and try and book it here with insurance included as it is extorniate out there.

Experience would be a lot better FOR ME if it was in a classic 1970 dodge challenger. Since Im a goodie...

Hmm, I went through the same decision and ended up with a Mustang.

Fine until you go off the highways. I took this one up into the Blue Ridge Mountains and it was like being in a boat. Every time the wind changed it rolled something chronic. I can only surmise that the suspension was made of marshmallow.

Now if it was a Viper SRT10 that would be a whole different game...:smt096

A mate of mine tried a tuned one, he normally drives an evo, said it was fast but didn't feel anything like 600hp should feel.

I wouldn't bother unless it was a classic old un.
