Need a bit of info/help of this. I have an SK5S

Firstly what temperature does the radiator fan kick in?

Recently the temps have been getting high even when moving.

e.g. riding at 50/60mph and temps fine at 80degC. Come to a stop for 1 min at traffic lights and temps rise to around 100degC. Take off again and temps stay around this unless I speed up to 40mph and above or... I take off and start to move slowly through traffic and temp gauge keeps rising, I seen it one day at 114degC and shat my pants and pulled over and let it cool down for 15mins.

Is this normal or has anyone experienced this? What range should the temperature sit within before the fan kicks in?

Many thanks

I too found the temp can rise quickly when I stop, from 83degC on the move to about 93degC when the fan cuts in. It sounds like the fan isn`t running, will need looking at.

If the fan wasnt to be working, what could be the fault/the fix?

There is a screw in switch with two wires coming out of it on the rad.(It is on the curvy anyway)This is the temperature sensor. You can check the fan actually works by shorting the two wires together. If it does work then you need to check the switch itself to ensure it comes on at the right temp,or try it with one that you know is working.

Ok so just touch these 2 wires together to check, its ok to do this? Sounds disastrous if I touch the wrong wires.

My SK9 fan kicks in at 105degrees and it doesn't often go much above that - presumably due to the fan doing it's job. If I was in hotter ambient outside temperaures maybe it would be higher. Usual m/way temp is high 70s to mid 80s but it very quickly goes up in slow traffic or standstill until, eventually the fan does its thing.

Let you bike sit on the side stand on tick-over. Watch the temp gauge and see if the fan starts, and if so when it stops. Job done. If the fan hasn't started by 1 000 degrees then maybe turn the bike off. It's also worth checking your coolant level and condition.

I'm pretty sure I'd seen pretty high temps on my K3 with it all in good nick.

I know that on the sk6 the fan comes on at 103C,
My bike never ever gets any hotter than 104C as the fan does its job and cools it down to about 93C and then stops. It defenitaly sounds like you have a problem

i have a k6 sv650s too and the fan kicks in at 103C, my fan has came on about twice since owning the bike for about 2 months now.

Sounds like I do. I have read that the fan is very loud when it comes and I can't recall ever hearing it. Has anyone ever had problems with their own fan and what they done to fix it? Seems everyones bike fan works well so far on this thread.
