Hi guys

Need your advice please, new to SV650 so not sure what I should be looking out for...been searching online but cant find same scenario.

Put it into 1st gear this morning and my boot got caught so over i went on the left side....tit! Anyways, my foot got caught underneath and the only damage I can see is the indicator casing broke completely and the left bar end bent quite badly.

When I lifted the bike up it said 'chec' briefly but started ok and seemed to drive ok, would it sound a bit different or am i imagining things?

Anyways, can I just get new indicator and bar end or should I be worried about a shock going from the bar end to bike and frame etc?

The bar end can just be pulled out now easily.

Sorry, not sure what I should be looking out for.

Thanks

Nick

If it just went over it should be fine.
The check is the tip over switch kicking in...generally kills the engine if the bikes on its side and just needs turning off and on again.

For the bar end, loosen it, take it off check out the bolt and rubber then put it back in nice and tight and it should be solid...the knock will likely have just worked it a little lose.

We've all dropped a bike at a stand still so dont beat yourself up just get on it and ride it again.

Sorry to hear you dropped your bike - here; accept the numpty of the day award :).

Just remember that no-one else, not evereverever has ever done anything daft which resulted in their bike having a lie down. And if there were ever any one that dumb it certainly wasn't not me. Oh no, deffo not me, not never nohow.

Anyway, did the engine stop? If yes, then you may not have noticed but the dash will always say 'chec' when the ignition is on but the engine isn't running. So as long as it went away when the engine started, and it runs OK now, it is fantastically unlikely anything is amiss. the handlebar can take a spectacular whack, and assuming it isn't bent, not do any damage at all, (so I'm told - obviously I wouldn't know, see above).
Buy a new indicator, it's easy to fit.
Is you bike faired or naked? The process for removing the bar end is different depending on which exact model you have, so have read around here and establish what you need to do first, then remove the bar end and straighten the parts if they're bent, (common), or replace as necessary.

And don't do it again.

Haha thanks guys...yup numpty of the day...leg and back a bit sore but prob from the strain of tryign to lift it up.

Fingers crossed but looks like i've maybe got away with minor damage!

Yeah the engine stopped but started again ok.

Its the 'S' model so semi faired but none of the pastics got damaged.

Process for removing? I just twisted it and it came out, is that bad?

Also when comparing to the right bar end i noticed a gap of a few mm between that and the twist grip of the throttle should it be that big?

I've dropped me bike before also, but i just fixed it up and started riding again. Also, my right hand bar end is exactly the same it has a quite a gap between itself and the throttle grip.

You need a little gap so it doesn't affect the throttle. The left hand side bar end can be put on as close to the grip as you like.

Oops! ;-)

I have nothing to add to the technical side of things, just a little message to say that I hope that your bruises fade fast and you can still get back on the bike with confidence. A little drop like that does knock you a little, but as you gain experience, you will learn that the bike is quite a robust little beastie and can put up with all sorts of abuse. On my first ride after passing my test, I promptly dropped my bike in a car park, while moving backwards very slowly! The other half was in fits, once I managed to get back on my feet.

Indicators and bar ends do take the worst of it because they stick out, but they are simple to repair or replace. Ride safe and make sure that your boot is on the peg properly next time. :D
