Hi all,

I know that the SV has its tank above the engine is its partly gravity feed but does anyone know the pressure the carbs take to fill properly? I will be using the engine for a project and so won't have a tank above the engine but will have it mounted lower, this means I need to get a fuel pump for it to pump to the carbs.

I am guessing they would take the standard 4psi carb fuel pumps classic minis can use?

Yeah probably be fine with 4psi, why not just use the stock SV one? They are easy, reliable and you can easily put a longer vacuum line on to feed from a bit further away.

I think I would want something I can switch off as a fuel shut off so I am planning to go electrical, seems that some basic solid state sort are around £18ish

Don't know for definite what the SV Mikuni unit delivers, but what you suggest at 4psi or thereabouts should be fine, it is for most carbs which just use a pump to make up for a bit of low tank effect. 4psi is equivalent to best part of 3m of fuel head so no lift problem and won't be too much for the float valves.

Quite a lot of folk with Hondas using the electric pulse pump (Deauville/Africa etc) replace them with the Facet pumps, this (http://www.glencoeltd.co.uk/index.html) is one of the commonly used suppliers. Seem to be pretty much completely reliable.

Best practice to mount them as low as you can and preferably not horizontal but on an upward output flow direction so any vapour is passed through. Filter usually on the inlet side to keep them clean.

Electric would certainly make sense for an automatic cut-off.

Thanks for the suggestion, its going to be on a kart so the tank is mounted below the steering wheel, the karts normally use a Mikuni pulse pump but thats only going to a smaller single carb rather than 2 larger carbs (650cc twin carbs will need more fuel than a single 125cc carb lol)

Ive seen something like this:

Its amazing how much those Facet pumps have gone up in price since I owned a classic mini lol safety cut offs are always a good idea!
