View Full Version : Prime Minister's Song of the Day

Fallout
29-08-12, 12:37 PM
As Prime Minster, I feel it's important to show a bit of myself to the public. After my initial idea was flagged as indecent, and several subsequent ideas were labelled sick, wrong, and illegal respectively, I've fallen back onto music.

Every day (read: when I can be arsed), I am going to post up a link to a track on YouTube, complete with short opinion based rambling. I will edit the first post with the latest tune, so there is no need to wade through rivers of crap.

I look forward to you all hating my taste in music and asking for me to shut up.

TODAY'S TUNE

6RNdte1i7Jo

Why? (For simple people): Because there's that funny bit in it what when he's like shouting then does the whispering bit. It's well funny, innit. Plus the ending is very cool and melodic.

Why? (For clever people): Because it is about inner turmoil and putting on a brave face. Self-righteous suicide. Despair. It's powerful and clever, unlike the nobber who put the video up including an intro of him smashing a street light. He is directed to Why for simple people. I particularly like the line "Why'd you leave the keys upon the table." which I think symbolised fecking off out the front door and never coming back .... which we all want to do now and then.

I'm suprised you didn't put this up.

Just like the average day in the life of a Prime Mimister's Secretary

@Jammy: Hmmm ... I will say yes, so long as you follow my format. i.e. Explain why it's good on a simple level, and then explain why it's good on a deeper level. The reason I made this thread, other than just for a laugh, is because music is a proper love hate thing with me. I find it hideously intrusive and annoying, recycled garbage for the most part. But there are certain tracks which mean something to me, other than just thinking they're cool, and connect with me. So if you have the same feeling about a track, go for it. If it's just your track of the moment which sound half decent, wait for a proper goodun to come along.

@LPH - Haha. Prodigy are good, and yes, I do enjoy beating women, and being a petite blonde. Forgot about that video. Tis ace! :) Doesn't qualify though, but I expect some prodigy on the road to Wales. :)

I'm keeping myself awake going through my CDs to find suitable tracks for Wales.

I remember bringing this video home on a VHS from the record company and putting it on for a bunch of mates. The general reaction was '$hit, that is never getting played on MTV'. It did, but it still has an after midnight rating.

For a while I kept hearing bits of this in various trailers and moody background music and it took me ages to track it down. Real goose bumps stuff. Not sure why but I think it's just displaced Angel by Massive Attack as the song I would listen to while riding it I were to listen to music while riding which I don't.

Intro by XX.

Do we have a ministry of riding soundtracks?

Feel free to slate it but remember I am the credit giver... twisted credit giver etc.

****ing amazing, one of Burials best IMO. The most talented producer in terms of capturing atmospheres for sure.
Got everything hes ever produced on my Mac and lots of Vinyl. I'm a tad obsessed.

This however is not what i listen to whilst riding (on the rare occasions i do) - The track will be revealed tommorow!

Prime Minister, think we should discuss these matters before posting. I am Minister of Music. We need to ensure that the right image is being displayed to the public

Fallout

When were you appointed to that lofty position?

i can't remember, i simply applied for it and i'm sure Thunderace agreed to it as well. It's in a thread somewhere

It's like Tony and Gordon all over again.
I smell a scandal.

Scandals are unsustainable. I hope to see a quiet agreement published shortly. Perhaps over a bacon butty in Loomies as I fear party funds do not yet stretch to a 5 course lunch at Granita.

I do think it was unwise to allow a minister for music to be appointed with so little checking, we don't even know his suitability for the position.

My taste in music is good. It covers a wide range of music, therefore satisfying the criteria of being open to different music from our supporters.

Whoa there big fella, I said it's ok with me, meaning I'd lend support to your application, holding multiple cabinet positions should be addressed to the Prime Minister, although the Sustainability Minister should be consulted as holding more than one post could make both positions less sustainable!

The British Soldier Song,

Watch the video and listen to the lyrics, made the wife cry when she first saw it and when I showed it to my mother she took about 10 mins to recover.

Why(for stupid people)If you don't know why you wasted your time watching it!

Why(for clever people)Because regardless of what your opinion of squaddies is, this is still what we do, for a trade, for travel, for adventure, for Britain!

@Jammy - That burial song is pretty good. A bit slow for me, but I get the appeal. Very good for zoning off too and atmosphere.

@Nathan - I can't relate to the N.I. conflict but totally get why it would be moving for a squadie or anyone who was involved in NI. I know a few good war songs I may post up sometime. Much more generic, and not so specific to a story, but better musically. I'll so what you think when I post em.

@Job - Reckon that could work. It's stupid, OTT, and it's prodigy, and has a good message. :D Makes sense.

This is my soldier song of the moment Nathan. All about comradery in war. Obviously, you can't understand a word Knopfler says ever, but that lends a bit to his charm.

q2rx3IAEISA

Why I like it, for simple people: It's chilled out, with some good transitional riffs in it.

For thinking people: There is a slow sense of resignation to fate in the song, which I like. There are a few really poignant lines like "You did not desert me, My brothers in arms" which encapsulate an entire spirit of comradery in a single simple line. Plus it's really generic, so you could apply it to medieval battles, all the way to modern wars. It's just about relying on the man next to you, and being far away from home, and it gets it across in a subtle but thought provoking way.

Lyrics, cos nobody can understand Knopfler
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed all your suffering
As the battle raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

No, it's just me. I have unfortunately been assimilated into a rival faction (same as the yorkshire trip). I hope to include you all in future shananigans, but first I have to remould them all into GM suitable candidates.

Btw, on a side note, I just came up with some new slang, used in an example:

"Hello there, fine lady. Fancy a love truncheon luncheon?"

I think our Prime Minister is doing dodgy deals and travelling abroad without consulting the cabinet. Thus leaving our region unmanaged, leaderless and in a shaky disposition.

A cabinet meeting should be called to discuss such matters, this looks to be a sustainability issue.
