So I got my new bits today, the git lied the new mudguard is carbon fibre and I don't like the look, opinions please;
New one.....
11405
Old one......
11406
Still think the old one looks better even with the damage......
11407
Not sure about the rear hugger either as I now have a massive piece of plastic where my nice shiny chain guard used to be.....
11408
I look forward to all the abuse!:D

if you don't like it blow it over gloss black, or even better a bit of creative masking, then blow it over leaving a stripe or something in carbon visable.
is that disc lock damage ?
Cheers Mark.
Gloss black looks better imo.
GB for me too, But i do like Mark's suggestion of a stripe or something! :)
Hugger = practicality over looks imo

Yeah the numpty I bought it from had a schoolboy moment! Am planning to spray it black, but not myself had a dabble with spraying a few years ago on an old ntv 650 and it did not go well!
Anyone know of somewhere local I could get it done, or any of you ninja with a spray can?
I heard Bordtea was good.......... There again i also heard he rides his bike often....
Tom, that's at damaging paint

It's a new thing mate. I would recommend putting it on for a week and seeing how you feel afterwards. Sometimes these things have to grow on you, like scabies.

Bum. Sounds like a waste of cash mate. I agree with the painting approach then, or get them on ebay separately and make your money back.

Yeah will get it sprayed, I do need a new one so not gonna sell it.
Im planning to spray a bit of fairing black, from the guides it dosent look too difficult as with black you cant really go wrong... You can use whatever i have left over paint-wise

Just remember to do more thin layers rather than one thick one.
Thick paint runs.

I've sprayed a few things in my time and failed at all of them. Even the finishes that looked good were very weak when it came to resisting stone chips etc. My only recommendation would be DO NOT go in with the "it's easy attitude". Go in with the attitude to get the exact right stuff and expect to spend a lot of time and care. Otherwise I'm sure even if you're lucky enough to make it look good, it won't last.
Interesting thing is i went with a paintshop for that exact reason and they still ****ed it up, twice
Antons behind the gun shop opposite the petrol station you used to meet Tomor at before you got a sense of direction. Proper bodyshop. They have done a few little jobs for me in the past and I've always been very happy with them.

An alternative that has a durable finish is the wrap it, black gloss vinyl is cheap enough, and no drying time.
Cheers Mark.

It was an ad on fleabay for a headstock bearing that said underneath
he was breaking his bike coz he needs money, and a telephone number so I rang him and said can I have your front mudguard, rear hugger, braided lines and callipers for £100, and he said yes.
So I think you may be right when you called him a pleb.

Definitely black for the front mudguard!
As for the rear hugger you could always get creative with a dremel and relieve it of some material from around the chain area. That should make it look a bit less bulky.

Was thinking if I could cut it in such a way as to refit my shiny ally chain guard?

If you can bolt em together with a bit of dremmel madness, happy days.

Can't see a way round getting them both bolted in the same holes?
Unless I rivet the hugger to the top of the chain guard!

So what do you lot think about my new plastics? I like the black and red but would need to spray the tank, the blue ones are OK but there is a matching tank on fleabay.

Black and red is significantly better, but I hear you get what you pay for with these cheaper kits. I've looked at plastics before and it appears you have to pay £600 to get good quality ones. But these could be fine. You wouldn't know till you'd bought em!
Thunderace
30-08-12, 08:53 PM
They're cheap because they don't make the bike anymore.;) And they're made in China!
But yes I think the black and red is best but will have to spray tank to match! The blue one has matching tanks for £80.
