View Full Version : GSXR SRAD brakes fit SV?

I have at the moment a gsxr srad 750 currently sitting in a workshop, not running and in need of work.

Anyway.
Would it be possible to put the gsxr brakes on my k6 sv? As I imagine they are a bit higher spec despite the age gap. The brakes are in top condition which is a bonus.

Or am I sending myself on a wild goose chase?

Cheers
:)

Twf adapter plates will do the job

Please excuse my stupidity but what does twf mean?

Not for SRAD brakes they won't!!

TWF plates are meant for GSXRK1-3/SV1000 calipers, different shape and hole centers.

Best way to fit SRAD calipers is to steal entire front end :)

Ooooo sorry my bad! I thought they made several adapters

Ok :)

Is it worth swapping the front end over, will I gain anything from it?

If it's not found wanting, maybe not so much.

The SV's suspension is not the worst out there, I think I've seen pogo sticks with worse setup

Easier ones out there, like GSXRk1-3

So if i manage to source some k1,2,3 etc gsxr brakes its an easier swap?

Well if anyone wants a project 750 srad you know where to come :P

Is there a chart somewhere on here which say what Calipers, from what bikes, fit with what brackets, to the SV650 ?

I ask, as for instance would a set of Hayabusa 6 pots fit ?

Thanks.

Yes very easy...
Just use GSXR750 forks to bolt them to!

There really are only 2 options:

The stock 2 pots, they have been fitted to a number of bikes like GSR750, ZR7S etc
GSXRK1-3 4/6 pots... fit using brackets... Zoran/TWF racing made some that work properly... SV racing parts sell some that don't.

Otherwise you are into swapping front ends.

Thanks for the info Chris.

Hey Griff, maybe someone*nudge* should take upon themselfs to get some brembo calipers fitted to the sv forks, and to srad forks on the sv and write a good thread for the rest of us.
You will? Jolly good show old chap :D

What's point of fitting brembo, the stock calipers are better than the forks.

SRAD forks are easy, loads of people done it... here are mine

What's wrong with the SRAD? I'm after a project for the winter.

I meant he should do both:p, brembo to stock forks and to srad forks. I want to try the 3(or is it 4) different sv fork upgrades before I change to srad forks but would like to already be on better brakes before I change, one change to one area at the time, I've been busy with logging what changes makes me go faster around the local track(albit a go-cart track), what is feels like after the change, what different tyres feels like etc etc
It's the only track I know good enough to push the power ones I'm on now, they are magic, when you go over the limit by a smidge you have a "mini" slide on the front, a pre-lowside warning you might call it. I'm pretty consistent, a good base for testing different stuff I would say, just for the heck off it, everyone needs a hobby.
Beer drinking would be cheaper, but this is more fun.

If I could afford brembo I would Andy ha!

Unfortunately you'll have to wait to read that thread :P

Hmmm I'd disagree and say you're wasting your time.

Those changes when you are at 20% of your optimum won't teach you much.

Better to make the big "ballpark" changes straight away; right forks, right springs, caliper mountings, disc sizes... THEN spend your time to carefully experiment. So far I have in those SRAD forks my 8th iteration of fork valving. Do same for make of brake pad. Choice of clicker settings etc and you can have it just how you like.

Sorry to be thick but...............

Without changing forks I would need adaptor brackets. Okay I understand that, but the TWF/Zoran website doesn't list them whereas SV parts does. So other than get some ally plate and a needle file, where other than SV Parts could I get them from ?

Is there a drawing of the brackets anywhere ? as there is a supplier on ebay who will make to order ?

As and when I get some brackets, its only the "GSXRK1-3 4/6 pots..." that would fit then.

Lastly, do the hoses need lengthening/changing, or will they still fit ?

thanks

MC

Nowhere. TWF made one batch, only out there secondhand occasionally now.
Hoses will still fit.

Take it since you're looking at this you already have a better master cylinder, braided lines, good pads and excellent condition caliper then?
Otherwise, there's no point.

Bear in mind how fast the minitwin guys go with stock calipers... there is no need IMO to put other calipers.

Hey, I'm not going racing, I don't need better braking, I need better feel.

As I understand it, the feel is much better with 4 pots than sliding calipers, and it's the getting rid of the 'wooden' feel that I'm after.

For my riding, the standard stopping power is more than sufficient :)

For my classic racing this is good, 38-39mm forks are max size in forgotten era, and 41mm is max in formula 80-87, it's all related.
It's also fun the see how far I can take the 12 year old stock forks and shocks, when the fast laps stagnate because of other stuff I'll try different bigger stuff and do the whole ting over again.
Minitwin racing is stock forks to if I remember correct, I read the rules ages ago, we don't have minitwin in Norway, but maybe I'll go down to Germany next year and do a race.

I think I may just leave it as is, as they still stop me bloody quick :)

As I said before if anyone is interested in an srad project then let me know.
