View Full Version : Pointy fairing bracket alternative?

This is probably more of a long term thing...

Having stepped back from getting an old SV to modify and started playing with what I have I keep on looking at the front fairing.

I was thinking about going the cafe racer route but that has become less appealing now. I had a good look at the thing and the shape works for me. Thing is it all looks so damned heavy. That bracket must weigh in pretty high and I'm not sure how much of those infill plastics are really necessary. I'd like to get something lighter made up and lose some plastic.

Has anyone got any ideas on this? Anyone done something similar. I'm a fairly competent home mechanic but my experience is limited, as is my tool chest so I'd be looking for someone to put an ally bracket together.

Probably a long term project...

Still. My SV is 'The Keeper' so I've got time!

Thanks,

Mark

buy an undamaged bracket and the copy it with aluminium or something similar, can be a nut and bolt job til you have it worked out and then weld it. You could also try removing some of the bracing on the standard one

The infills are cosmetic so would leave them in place to hide the gubbins behind.

tbh honest though its probably a waste of time for a road bike anyhow

You're probably right but you know how it is. You change one thing and that works so you want to change something else...

As it goes this will probably be something I look at more closely over the winter. I'm guessing that I'll leave it this year but the obsessive will win in the end!

Thanks,
