Pointy nuts and bolts sizes?

Hi all.... Ive got a very unloved pointy... im slowly giving her some TLC and have come around to sorting the fixings...

It looks like somone has put the bike together using a random pot of fixings so i have all manner of machine screws, threaded bar with lock nuts and some really weird fixings ive never even seen before...

I dont really want to use Probolt Aluminium kits as its a little expensive.

i have a pick'n'mix fixing center near me and was going to just go and pick up the loose bolts.

Does anyone know how many of what sizes i would need to replace all of the fairing fixings (the button head ones)?

Also im needing some other fixings like the tank bolts, and the little plastic push pin things... where is the best place to get all of these??

Ebay's not too bad for the plastic clips. Try searching for trim clip 5mm or 6mm. Beware fo some Chinese ones. I ordered two lots from two suppliers and both came back after I'd paid saying that they didn't have any (supplier 1) and that they were of bad quality (supplier 2). It really bothers me that places sell stuff they haven't actually got.

As for the other bits and bobs you could use a website such as Ron Ayers or Bikebandit to look at the parts diagrams. Or you could count them from your bike.

Most smaller fasteners on Jap bike's are either M6x1mm pitch, or M5x.8mm pitch.
The problem in obtaining screws that'll do the job, without paying Suzuki prices, is that the original screws often have larger heads than what's available elsewhere, like the fairing button head screws. Or, the screws have a shoulder that's larger than the thread.

It is for this very reason that I wish I had a small metal working lathe, I could spend hours spinning up replacement fasteners (after learning how to ) and be perfectly happy doing it. Hmmm, home made stainless steel fastners... :love:

In the mean time, I visited my local bolt supplier and used stainless penny washers with the stainless bolts that were the right thread, the rest I got in a specific set from Chewy's site (http://www.chewys-stuff.co.uk/) for a very reasonable price. :cool:

Check out this listing, someone sent me this link to a full set of engine bolts etc for the SV to smarten up my engine (as there aren't many engine dress up kits for the SV it seems)

Im sure they must have a kit which does other parts of the bike as well, although I know Probolt do kits but they aren't the cheapest.

Edit - Probolt do have a full fasterning kit (check other listing for different years)

Try chewys bits, he makes a well priced kit for a vast amount of the sv's bolts.
