Anybody recommend a helmet that doesn't suffer from excessive wind noise at speeds over 60mph?

I've only used a Nolan N84 before and it seems very noisy to me.

Shoei XR1100. Best crash helmet I ever had, and I've had quite a few.

+1 for the shoei
or have a look at Schuberth, my dad swore by how bloody quiet it was, until it got stolen.

got the qwest and while a good helmet as it don't leak in the rain etc.etc its supposed to be quieter that the 1100 but its still noisy as feck. don't believe the hype. at lower speeds yes it's pretty quiet but when it gets windy and the speeds increase it gets very very noisy almost to the point it's deafening.

ear plugs are the only answer.

As above, use ear plugs at 60mph, unless you want to lose you hearing.

As for a quiet lid, Schuberth are probably the quietest. They're very well made and comfortable too. The only downside is that they're jolly expensive.

Scuberth are good but expensive-----my answer to the question would be look at BMW Motorad, almost identical helmet but made by Scuberth for BMW.
I have had my BMW Flip-front for 5 years now and it is the quietest and most comfortable helmet I have and it will be replaced by another BMW lid soon.

N.B I go to BMW and try the lids on to get the model and size I want then look for identical from the internet which usually works out a fair bit cheaper from a reputable supplier

+1 on bmw helmets although not a quiet as they claim. I still wear ear plugs in them but they are very light and of decent quality. Note the bluetooth comms kit is not compatible between bmw and schuberth.

The noise you'll experience depends very heavily on the bike, the riding position, screen/fairing, head attitude, even jacket detail around the collar/shoulders, plus the fit of the helmet (does the shape match your head shape?). That's why people find differences in experience with the same helmet.

I've had the Schuberth S1 and now a Qwest. I'd say the Qwest is marginally better but they both differ dramatically between the 2 bikes I usually ride. The XR1100 and the Qwest share a lot of design, but the XR is intended for a more sports type riding position, the Qwest for a more upright position. Owners of the new Neotec seem to like it, haven't tried one. I'd say the Qwest is pretty reasonable for noise levels, but still need plugs (check the visor isn't on the "city" setting where one side is cracked open a touch).

Ear plugs are the answer. Custom made if you want the best effect, but disposables work. You do need to find the right earplug for you though, they come in different size/shapes so find what suits your ear canal. The fit is more important than the quoted noise reduction rating in my experience, if they don't fit they'll be uncomfortable and noisy.
