My bikes been SORN and I was going to get it re-taxed but have just realised the MOT has run out.

Can't tax it without MOT, need to take it on road to get to testing station (I know I can take an un-MOT'd bike to a pre-arranged appointment, but what about it being un-taxed)?

How can I legally get to the test station? I'm not asking if I should take the risk for half a mile down the road, but how,in the eyes of the system, am I supposed to go about this?

See half way down (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/UntaxedVehicle/DG_069727)

Driving to an MOT test when a SORN is in place

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station provided you have adequate insurance cover in place for that vehicle.

Just answered your own question. cannot tax without an mot. Aslong as your going to a pre arranged appointment no mot or tax would be required. Think you have to have insurance though

Cheers Tim,

Every time I've heard that bit of spiel before it's only ever mentioned the MOT bit....

Happy now.

a few years ago i brougth a bike back from Germany.

I rode it to get an MOT without Tax or number Plate. Before i did that i phoned the local police headquarters to inform them of my planned movements that day (due to no number plate) and they confirmed that as long as the bike was insured and the MOT was pre booked i could ride on the road.
