I start Level 2 City and Guilds in Photography next week. Persuaded work to pay the £750 fee. The tutor had a look at my portfolio and said I could probably skip 2 and go straight to 3 but I want to go back to basics as I've never done any formal training plus Level 2 covers a module of Photoshop. Work is paying for that too. Hurrah.

Rub it in why don't you! :-P
I guess you'll be photoshop-ing all the photos from the camera tour then.:)

Well the reason I'm so pleased work is coughing up for this lot - and a new laptop for me to have at home - is because since starting to do photos at work to save the Club some money when I could do pics rather than book a pro I have bought gear worth more than £7000. I've paid for all of this myself and don't even get tax relief on it as I'm not self employed.
Work don't expect the Estates team to buy their own power tools or the chefs to buy the ovens out of their salary. So I finally got tough and said that I wanted training, hardware and software. In return I put in the time on the 2 year course and take over more of the photographic work.
Every image I take saves them money and they own the copyright so it makes financial sense.
These were the photos I put into the portfolio for the interview.

Glad this has come together :)
I'd have gone for level 3 but that's because the number is higher, therefore better, and I'm a firm advocate of Top Gear's slogan "Ambitious, but rubbish"
Actually, don't listen to me.
I think I recognise 2 people I spend rather a lot of time with in one of those photos :D
Jambo
Can't you get your boss to include photography in your job description .
You could then go back to the tax man.

It is in my job title already. I am the MCC Filming & Photography Manager. Doesn't make a jot of difference as I get a salary and don't do a tax return.
Jambo, you are correct!
You Jammy git. you called?

I did the level 3 c&g a few years back before i did my hnd and degree and it was a really good course. Same here as i went to do the level 2 and was bumped up to the 3 instead based on portfolio work, you should enjoy it. Taught me loads its just a shame i dont take many pictures anymore. Hmm where's my box brownie ;)

You might not do a tax return Lph, but that doesn't mean you can't, put one in and claim the tax back on all the photo gear.
