Have just ordered an iPad 3 64gb through a scheme at work - works out at about £15 per month after tax & NI discounts for 3 years

Not had an iPad / iPhone before so any recommendations for cool free apps?

Have just started to 'back up' some of my DVD collection so I can play them on it, using DVDFab to unencrypt and Handbrake to convert - bit of a pita but seems to be working

Anyone got any useful tips (apart from should have got an android tablet  )

Sure you don't want to wait a few months and get a Windows 8 tablet?

Oh dear, here we go again. Anti apple stuff flooding in.

Some suggestions from my experience:
Flipboard, cool web reader app, you can give it RSS, twitter, Facebook etc and it makes it into a newspaper like interface
Evernote, write your notes from meetings etc and they get syncd online for other devices/backup
Chrome, nice featured browser, can list tabs open on Other computers
Flex player, plays more than most media players. (XBMC is better but needs jailbreak)
eBay, nice interface can cause a further diminishing of your available money though.
Autotrader great for browsing and now supports bikes.
Sky+ ideal for when you forget to set something to record whilst away from home. (Also now controls the skybox too)
Amazon window shop. One of the nicest store apps on the iPad.

Games:
Simpsons tapped out
Can't go wrong with any of the angry birds lite editions.
Super stick man golf is pretty good fun.
Words with friends if you like knock off scrabble.
Draw something is pretty good on the iPad
Jaws revenge is surprisingly playable

Paid for apps:
grand theft auto 3, steep at £4.99 but plays really well.
Alienblue, reddit client, think its £1-2 but well featured if you use reddit.

Best idea is to check the top free apps list reasonably regularly to see what comes up.
Enjoy the new toy!

Puffin browser if you want to view flash websites, but just be warned, if you are getting it through work as the script, or whatever you call it, is all done on their servers and not on the iPad so you may have Information Governance issues depending on where / who you work for.

Fnnnaaaaar, what do you search for in the App store 'Bullet hole'? ;)

Sure you don't want to wait a few months and get a Windows 8 tablet?

A good reason would be because it runs on Windows. Don't take it personal, I'm not an Apple fan either, but you have to admit, that is a BLOODY good reason.

Supplied by a third party as part of a work scheme, however is entirely for personal use (unless I choose to use it for work) - therefore it belongs to 'me', and not work - as a result I can do what I bloody like with it :p
