BEWARE anybody using ipads with iOS 5, when the prompt to update to iOS 6 may have implications that you don’t want:-
My rant:-
Apple have updated the operating system for the iPad. Updates and improvements are normally good, but….
I purchased one for my daughter (she is autistic) and she loves the YouTube app. It’s the only thing she uses. Well worth the money, she loves it.
However, since they decided to do the software update to iOS 6 (yesterday) they have removed the YouTube app and it is no longer available (something to do with a licence). There may also be other things that have changed, I have not checked further yet.
Not a big deal to most people. But to my daughter the loss of the YouTube app on the iPad is devastating, she sobbed for hours last night and is also unwell and off school, so the iPad would normally comfort her. Very frustrating, very annoying and as we all know these small changes can have a huge impact to certain people.
Anybody uses the iPad and in particular the YouTube app then they “SHOULD NOT” do the upgrade to iOS 6 because they will lose the YouTube app and it is not possible to get it again. Apple say that it will be available but could be a ‘few’ months! It is possible to use the link via Google homepage, but for my daughter this is not an option. Change is bad.
My daughter can’t be the only child that relies heavily on her iPad for comfort, entertainment and education.
I now have to go and purchase another tablet PC (Android) that is able to run the YouTube app (not iPad). I imaging that a lot of families are not so fortunate to be able to afford such luxuries. So anybody that already paid around £300 for an iPad may not be able to buy something else to replace it easily. This is a shame and I imagine a huge error by the Apple team, an organisation that normally does such a good job!
Interestingly if I had not done the update I would still have access to the app and its not possible to roll back to iOS 5. Grrr.
