For those new to the org the annual Ice Cream Run takes place in December every year. I do believe that it has not taken place for the last 2 years due to bad weather and dangerous road conditions.

The normal routing is to meet at Kinross service station, stop off at Cupar bikes, then on to St Andrews for Ice Cream.

All being well i may be able to talk Mrs A into hosting whoever turns up with hot drinks and sandwiches afterwards (fingers crossed i stay in her good books til then).

Poll is up in another thread with a closing date of 17 Nov.

At the moment there are 2 dates that have the same number of votes.

Once the poll closes i will put up more information.

Bad weather and dangerous road conditions never stopped Blue Flame and peterco last year...

I gave up last year icy roads then blizzard conditions made me think better of it.

Was saved with a bacon butty and a cuppa on the way home by a star!

OK, we've seen what happens in the rare bad weather, let's remind ourselves what we can do when we put our Ecosse minds to it...

Are you going to Janetta (I think that is how you spell it)
Many years ago, I saw they had Ice Cream Cakes for sale.
On Boxing day, I will be 60 (pause while you think I must have miscounted) and will be coming to a house in St Monans with all family for Xmas week.
If they still do these, I want one for a birthday cake.
Please let me know if they can still be bought and I will order one.
thanks in anticipation

Thanks Tiger
I have always wanted one of their cakes but knew that it would not survive the journey back to Glasgow.
St Andrews to St. Monans is probably about 20 mins.
I will get a photo of it and post after Xmas so that you all can drool.

Right folks the poll has now closed - thanks to everyone that voted.

I am not planning on organising a nice route to and from St Andrews as most of the roads around here are horrible at the moment with mud from the tractors going in and out of the fields.

It will be a meet up, get there, ice cream and depart type of outing.

The date that got the most votes is Sunday 2nd December.

Meet

Kinross Service Station at 10am for a 1015 depart.
M90 north to junction 8.
A91 through Auchtermuchty
Into Cupar. Stop for a quick re group at Cupar Bikes.
Leave Cupar Bikes at 11am (ish) into St Andrews.
Janettas Ice Cream shop in South Street for Ice Cream (coffee shop next door for those that want a hot drink as well)
Down to the sea front somewhere for a few photos and a group lunge pic.
Depart St Andrews and everyone go their own way. Depending how Mrs A is feeling there may be a possibility for everyone to come back to my house after the ice cream for a brew. Will only know that nearer the time.

Those that are coming from the West or further afield, may want to sort out a meet up so you can ride over together but i will leave that up to you to arrange.

Please put your name below if you are coming and where you will be meeting (Kinross, Cupar, St Andrews)

Shame you can't make it Peter, I'm sure I can hear a terrible cough brewing that'll mean your off sick that day ;)

I'll be coming over the Clackmannanshire Bridge and up the A977 so can pick people up on the way. Won't being going very quickly as I'm bringing someone along on their wee 125 custom, so it'll be sensible speeds for me all day.

It's also weather dependant. There be no tears at my own stupidity like last years ice cream run

I should be along either with the repaired (well, mostly repaired) CBR or going very slowly on the Diversion, which is, in fact... the slowest bike on the planet.. fact. Missus should be along too, who I assume is secretly hoping we take the Yamaha...

Forecast looks dry, if chilly... unless Monday's weather comes early, in which case rain, snow, cold! Either way, at least the ice cream won't be melting too fast.

All streets in East Kilbride were freaking ice rinks this morning.
Keeping my fingers crossed for a slightly less icy morning tomorrow. Have even talked Wendy into coming.

I'm thinking about taking the sensible option and staying in the house the streets in my area are very icy... Thinking that it only takes one patch of ice to ruin my day so warmth of the house is looking good.

If the streets are overly icy when I leave the pub tonight, I shall abandon St Andrews, do a 180* turn, and straight back into the pub. Weather says S. Glasgow isn't to go above freezing tomorrow, so it's an iffy one for me anyway.

Don't think I'd even make it out of my estate.. The roads have been like glass all day and probably be worse tonight. So unless there's some freak warm spell for tomorrow morning I'm out. :(

To the lunatics that do make it out :riding:... Stay a safe and enjoy your ice cream. :smt111

Just a heads up guys, i went from stirling to Kinross and back today and the roads were VERY icy over about 40% of the run. Be careful out there.

The main roads around st Andrews area are not too bad but the side roads are horrendous. Last night it rained then froze and hasn't defrosted all day. Not sure if I'll be able to get out my street. Will look in the morning and see.

I second that one!

Newcastle was completely frozen up by 10pm last night and was still frozen in parts this afternoon.

I'm in and I'm out. Skating rink. Even in balmy Glasgow. Even exchanging my Sidis for Bauer Turbos ain't going to keep my SV on the straight and narrow.

Saving my possible cracks, chips and dislocations for Monday morning where at least I get paid for making the effort.

Just arrived at work, roads aren't too bad in Glasgow but it's minus 3!

One of my colleagues came in by bicycle from Lochwinnoch mind you so it can be done.

I'd go! If I lived in Cupar...

What KG said. :-)

Grrr I am kinda still up for this especially after doing work on my bike on Friday. However i have a cold, I can barely walk over the car park of our flats let alone drive over it, then I have a few streets to get over til the main road. Kirsty says its mad and she aint doing it, and forecast says it doesn't get over freezing all day really. So all in all its not worth the risk I spose... grumble!...

sputnik
02-12-12, 08:39 AM
Er, anyone still in then? ..... Anyone ... ?

I'm still game for it but not really planning on 'ice cream for one' .

appollo1
02-12-12, 08:43 AM
I know I put the poll up to arrange this but I'm going to bale out folks as the roads here are just sheet ice. I am not risking it as I won't even get off the side streets.
If anyone is going to go then be very careful. The A91 from dairsie to guardbridge is covered in mud.
Maybe plan next years ice cream run for September!!!

Was out for a blast down the dual carridgeway from kdy to lochgelly. Bike went from nice and shiney to black as f*ck in 10 mins. Decided since it was filthy I'd just potter about Glenrothes for an hour or so. Wasn't cold at all. I'll be out tomorrow and then the bikes getting cleaned thoroughly and tucked up. Anyone else out tomorrow, whether it be ice cream run or not?
