The camera has been released, I'll recap the guidelines as sort of settled on so far.
This thread is only for picture posts
Any discussion goes here: OTaL: Chat Thread (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=184555)
Anyone wanting to put their name down for a turn please see here: OTaL: Request List (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=184850)
Picture suggestions:
You have up to a week with the camera before you have to pass it on.
You should take as many pictures as necessary but your post can only be 5 (6 if you get a handover picture)
The first picture should ideally be a self shot (the camera lends itself to this reasonably well)
The second should be something local, a landmark or something of interest (if not possible/inspiring then no problem, its only a suggestion)
The remaining 3 can be of anything you wish to take a picture of. (remember you aren't limited to 5 shutter presses, shoot loads if you like but select 5 in the end)
Submitting your pictures:
To keep to a standard, I'd like everyone to email their chosen 5 pictures in full size (which may require sending two mails with 2 and 3 images each etc) to the address set up for this: sv650org@gmail.com
Myself or Stuuk1 will post the pictures to the same account as everyone else's (to form a coherent gallery as it snowballs) and send you the links to put in your own post in this thread.
If you aren't sure about mailing or run out of time, ask the next member you pass the camera to.
Passing it on:
There is no "running order" as such, it's a little too difficult to constrain so:
The choice of who and how to pass it on is up to the current holder of the camera, feel free to ask them if you are nearby (or plan to be).
Remember not to just pass it between friends though, try to make sure that everyone is included.

http://www.canon.co.uk/Images/powershot%20s3%20is%20200_tcm14-344327.jpg
It's a Canon S3is, it has a 12x zoom on it
maximum exposure time of 15s (iirc)
articulated LCD on the back allows for some interesting angle shots
super macro mode allows for some extreme close ups (almost up to the lens front) this is enabled by selecting a mode other than auto (iirc that is the only mode it doesn't enable in) and then press and hold the macro (flower) button.

Right, Here goes with the first pictures. I'll send some links to Nobbylad once I've worked out which are best and then everything should progress smoothly once we are sorted.
First picture: Me (I hate doing this but I'd suggested it for others so I should do it despite my reservations)

4: Extreme Closeup

And finally: The handover. I'd had quite a dash over so I was amped up on adrenaline, hence the stupid grin. First time I'd met Mark though so was really nice to see a new face.

My efforts below...not as inspiring as Brettus', but even though I had the camera for a bit longer, the weather was always carp and I couldn't get some of the shots I wanted.
I declined to do a self-portrait on the basis that one shot of my ugly mug is enough (in the handover).
My new bike, haven't had a road bike in over 25yrs...crikey it makes your bum sore/teeth rattle!
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/IMG_1886_zps30deb11b.jpg
This was a great view, but a rubbish picture. Where I was stood was quite gloomy, but the sunshine was glorious over the patchwork quilt of landscape. In the long distance to the left, you can just make out some of the windmills on the Liverpool/Crosby coast.
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/IMG_1889_zps11d00de1.jpg
A pretty dismal shot of my bike, I couldn't park it so the sun was behind me and I was running out of time to get some shots in :(

I wasn't sure how well this one would turn out, it's a house that's been a local landmark for as long as I can remember. It's in Southport and is built on what is basically a swamp of quick sand (at least that's what we used to think as kids). The land all around is quite sandy and as it's close to the coast, moves around quite a bit. The original houses were built on rafts to stop them sinking, however it didn't quite work. There's a lot of new developments around the area where, presumably, they've engineered the foundations better, however this house is one of the few left and when you see it, it looks wierd...this old, wonky house, that looks like it's going to fall over, right next to a load of brand spanking new (straight houses).
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/IMG_1898_zps0089a372.jpg
Finally, a food picture! A pan of traditional scouse in it's formative day...once simmered for several hours, it was left to cool, then re-heated the next day for maximum flavour, served with warm, crusty bread, with butter and red cabbage. YUM! (and it's used up for lunch during the rest of the week).

Hi,
I had an interesting time with the camera but I did think that it may have been nicer to have it during a hot summers week on the beach J
Anyway here goes ……
This was the first night and it was foggy so I took a picture of the street light.

Local landmark - Ann Griffiths memorial chapel. Ann Griffiths was an 18th century hymn writer and poet, revered by the chapel community, and born and raised in the area in which I live. The chapel was built in 1905 as a memorial to her.

I play trad Welsh music on a button accordeon and during the week I went with the Tanat Valley dancers to play for a folk and clog dance workshop for the local young farmers. My 10 year old twin daughters Sioned and Eleri came with me, played the flutes on some of the dances, and did some dancing too. This is Sioned doing a spot of Welsh clogging.

I drive fairly regularly between the next village and mine using a small lane which crosses the ridge between our two villages. This is the view looking SW from the westerly end of the lane. The hill on the right is Moel Bentyrch and the ridge behind it is line of hills north of Cefn Coch.

Righto guys, first of all another apology for taking so long with this. I did mean to do something over Christmas and get the village tree in etc, but in reality I spent most of the time lashed up and without the camera.
The snow cancelled my plans this weekend, so it was a perfect opportunity to get out and take some pics - also took my camera with me, but can't use them.
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/IMG_2344_zps9722cae0.jpgFirst Pic: Hand over pic with Gary at Iron Bridge back in December - and thats the Iron Bridge in the background. Not bad for a December day, but a little wet. Found a nice little place for a breakfast (even though it was afternoon) and also found out that Ironbridge has 1 cash machine, which doesn't like my card. Short days meant that by the time I was getting back a smoked visor wasn't a good idea.
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/IMG_2351_zps57818167.jpg
Second Pic: For some reason I'm a fan of pics with undulating roads through the middle and trees on either side - particularly with different seasons and lighting conditions. Due to the conditions I didn't really want to stand in the middle of the road, and didn't want to leave my car at the side of the road for too long. Quite like getting warning signs in photo's too. Especially with the red against the snow.
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/IMG_2368_zps58d7f376.jpg
Third Pic: At the edge of the forest in the Cannock Chase Visitor Centre at Birches Valley. A bit similar to the first one, an avenue down the middle with trees either side. Quite like the relative straightness of the trees.
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/IMG_2370_zps0c76657c.jpg
Fourth Pic: On the 'Health Trail' at Birches Valley - there are lots of sculptures off the footpath which are good to look at in different seasons and lights - including the three bears chairs, and the hair and the tortoise. This made me think that the weight of the snow had made the dragonfly sink to the ground - he looks a bit miserable.
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/IMG_2379_zps21da269c.jpg
Fifth Pic: The visitor centre is home to one of the Go Ape courses in the trees. Quite interesting to see it covered in snow - the man made against the natural.
I took quite a few more pics including the other sculptures which are on the memory card if anyone wants to look at them... but feel free to delete them if more space is needed.
Now I just need to wait for the snow to get off the ground so that I can brave getting the bike out and passing the camera on to Haircut.

The OTaL camera is once again on the move!
Self portrait. Well almost.
Should have spent a bit more time getting this pic.
Didn't realise till I saw it full size after posting but this is really not a good picture of me at all.
Oh well. Me with wet hair combed back after removing lid.

View from a peak near the top of Apple Orchard Mountain (4224 FT.) on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
At about 4000 ft. here and just over 1500 ft. above the valley below.
This spot is a local landmark, it's the highest point you can view from on the Parkway in Virginia.

Amazing the places the camera has been already!
The OTaL camera is now on it's way to Scotland!
It's been quiet in here!
OK, so the Ecosse section hasn't done too well with the camera lately, but when we do an OTaL handover we do it right...
http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/o732/sv650org/Picture007_zps3023b287.jpg (http://s1340.photobucket.com/user/sv650org/media/Picture007_zps3023b287.jpg.html)
After reading the rules, I then had to do a selfie. There's obviously a problem with the camera. I tried a few times but kept getting the same image of this old, tired looking guy. Spooky.

For a local landmark, this is the Brig o'Doon in Ayr. Famous for being the site where Tam O'Shanter escaped a posse of bare-breasted witches. **** like that happens to me all the time. Next I wanted a typical Ayrshire scene. I couldn't find drunk people fighting so here's a picture of Ailsa Craig in the mist. This is a big lump of granite from which all the Olympic curling stones are made. The picture was taken from Electric Brae - one of those places where your car appears to roll up the hill. It's apparently an optical illusion caused by the weird topography of the surrounding land. You can kind of see that if you look at the field in the foreground. A hill rising on two planes with a big dip in the middle.

The camera arrived with me in the post, sent down by punyXpress (thanks David) so this was the closest I could get to a handover pic. I combined it with a selfportrait. Who is that ugly old geezer staring back at me and why does he have a camera?

The river (afon Efyrnwy) which runs through our village has been really fierce over the last couple of months and fuller for longer than I can recall since coming to live in this part of the world 30 years ago. There is a weir with a turbine which produces electricity just below the village. This picture was taken late one afternoon when the river was absolutely raging.

We have no broadband down the phone lines here and BT have no intention of providing any for us as we are a village of just 25 houses with some 12 miles of phone line between us and the nearest cabinet. A group of us got together about 6 years ago and put together a community wireless broadband network. It's maintained by volunteers and currently a friend and I are the main administrators. Some of the kit on the network is now showing its age and the network itself needs restructuring so we are in the process of a complete redesign and rebuild. This is one of the new transmitters we are putting up.

A few years ago the Powys Eisteddfod was held in Llanfair Caereinion. My twin daughters were asked to be the flower maids, being told repeatedly that it was a "great honour" to be chosen. In fact they hated doing it! This is a picture of Sioned and Eleri with Mabel in the circle of gorsedd stones which was the scene of their discomfort and disgruntlement 3 or 4 years ago.
How about that then? Not a motorbike to be seen!

Sir Trev
06-03-16, 04:23 PM
The OTAL camera has finally made it south of the Watford Gap. Steve God was passing by on his way to a meeting so the handover happened over a coffee, where we were snapped by a chap who had trouble knowing which way up a camera should go... Excuse the blurs.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Sir%20Trev%20and%20Steve%20God_zps5o9xsa88.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Sir%20Trev%20and%20Steve%20God_zps5o9xsa88.jpg.htm l)
So, what to show you? Well the obvious place to start is H Cafe, near Dorchester upon Thames. Not so many bikes about of a Sunday in late Feb but on a Monday night in the summer the place is ram packed and has some nice roads nearby.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/H%20Cafe_zps698xl7hh.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/H%20Cafe_zps698xl7hh.jpg.html)
The cafe is not exactly pretty but I have a few chocolate box views nearby. Heading down the Thames a bit is Marlow, with it's chain suspension bridge, lovely church and (hideously expensive) period waterfront houses. It also has a picturesque weir which avid Dr Who fans might recognise from the 1970 Ambassadors of Death. The Doctor's assistant Liz is chased across it. [please note Lady Poppy is the 1970's Dr Who fan and provided this bit of info].
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/The%20Thames%20at%20Marlow_zpsiczpns7q.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/The%20Thames%20at%20Marlow_zpsiczpns7q.jpg.html)
Closer to home there are a few other places of interest, such as what's left of the original broad gauge station built by Brunel when Wycombe was at the end of a branch line of the Great Western Railway
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Wycombe%20Broad%20Gague%20Station_zpsshyzb4vk.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Wycombe%20Broad%20Gague%20Station_zpsshyzb4vk.jpg. html)
Wycombe was also well known for its furniture trade, especially chairs (hence why the Wanderers are called The Chairboys) owing to the amount of Beech woodland around here and the huge number of manufacturers that sprung up along the Wye valley to exploit the material. We used to the be the home of some big names, like Ercol and Parker Knoll, but sadly both have moved away now and there is only a few places left making traditional handcrafted pieces. Wycombe Museum has some interesting examples. This shows an early classroom chair, with a small built in desk on one arm; a soldiers chair that only has a right arm rest, allowing a soldier to sit without removing his sword; an office swivel chair, without the gas riser and casters we take for granted now; and a symmetrical garden chair which if it was wet or covered in leaves you could turn it upside down and sit on the dry/clean side.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Wycombe%20Chairs_zps2ylk0hl3.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Wycombe%20Chairs_zps2ylk0hl3.jpg.html)
The scenery is not too bad around here, if you like hills that is. Such as: my road
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Chiltern%20countryside_zpsycje9qke.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Chiltern%20countryside_zpsycje9qke.jpg.html)
The view towards Aylesbury from the edge of the Chilterns, from a viewpoint called Coombe Hill. The vale to the north/west of the Chilterns includes central Bucks and Oxfordshire - a great place for biking with open roads and few obstructions
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/View%20towards%20Aylesbury_zps7yuhl0rp.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/View%20towards%20Aylesbury_zps7yuhl0rp.jpg.html)
A panorama from the same spot - not the OTAL camera's greatest forte and you may need to view the full size image to see any detail at all. It was a hazy day but if the weather was better you would be able to see what's left of Didcot power station on the horizon to the left.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Coombe%20Hill_zpsa4hlbiyr.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Coombe%20Hill_zpsa4hlbiyr.jpg.html)
Last one from Coombe Hill is of a building bequeathed to the state in 1921 by Lord and Lady Lee of Fareham. Ever since it has been the countryside residence of the Prime Minister of the UK and known to all as Chequers.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Chequers_zpsrmfcmn2i.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Chequers_zpsrmfcmn2i.jpg.html)
And no set of this area would be complete without a snap of a real wildlife success story. Reintroduced to the Chilterns 20-odd years ago the Red Kite can now be seen all over this area and has indeed spread out quite a distance. Soaring and gliding all day they are a wonderful sight. An early morning ride down a quiet road will often startle a few as they come down to feast on roadkill.
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc413/Sir_Trev/Red%20Kite%20over%20Wycombe_zpsegkgivio.jpg (http://s1210.photobucket.com/user/Sir_Trev/media/Red%20Kite%20over%20Wycombe_zpsegkgivio.jpg.html)
And now it's on to the next recipient.

Fantastic detail from our local artists.. The wall art can only be seen from the river as it is on the other side of the river defense wall. As you drive over the qe2 bridge looking to the left you can see the start of the gallery

Apparently this is the tallest pylon in europe. They come as a pair with the other one on this side of the river. In the distance are the Tilbury docks.
The water is tidal and there are some tasty fish in there ;)

Normally you take it for granted driving over it but there is a weird kind of awe standing underneath it. Not quite the Millau bridge but still a feat of engineering.
We paid it off years ago with the toll money and were promised it would be free thereafter..unfortunately our governments have other plans and continue to charge ( unless you are a cyclist or a motorcyclist.)
https://c4.staticflickr.com/8/7428/27309865531_2e04c14311_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/HBhcyx)
I remember quite clearly how I felt when I first saw this in 4 weddings and funeral and yes this is the church from the funeral ( St Clements church) :(. The mothership is Proctor & Gamble who maintain the church. The interesting note is the stonework outside is etched with dates and names of workers in years gone by.

Bonus Picture - This was the last piece in the gallery as I rode home. A half mile wall of ever changing artwork.
