Right, Had the SV since July and its starting to hurt my Wrists/elbows and lower back, I'm currently doing about 80 mile a day which to start with was OK but s starting to get a bit uncomfortable.

Considering something a tad more upright maybe... dunno just something better for commuting. Budget is around £2000. Was looking at maybe a Hornet or a Bandit then came across this

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201229479193655/sort/priceasc/usedbikes/cc-to/700cc/model/sv/make/suzuki/page/2/postcode/lu55ed/radius/100?logcode=p

Its still a SV but its a Naked K3. Anyone have any experience as to how upright they are?

have you thought about fitting riser bars to your sv to relieve the pressure on your wrists? I've not done it on the sv but have put heli bars on the ninja which makes it less extreme. It would be a cheaper option I guess. Whilst not directly advocating comfort bars I have seen some members fit them on here.

The Current SV is a bit of a sh*tter so was looking to replace it around January anyway. It was bought in a hurry as I had a very short amount of time to buy a bike (1 day)

They are about as upright as any other naked bike I suppose, but for commuting wouldn't you want a fairing? If using any Suzuki for winter commuting invest in lots of ACF50. Also personally using an SV for commuting any more than 30-40 minutes journey, I'd want an aftermarket seat.

not fixed on any kind of bike at present, hence the advice thread :P

So far not really found the seat that uncomfortable.

My unfaired SV was very comfy and easy on the wrists. Put a fly screen on it - they are much more effective than you realise if you don't have the extra to go for an upright faired bike. And as Ralph says, put a gel seat on it!

Might see If I can give that one a whirl next weekend if they still have it as its only about 20 mins down the road from me.

I did briefly yes but they are out of my price bracket.

Edited as no point arguing over something silly.

The thing with a naked K3 is if it was not upright enough its only a few quid to get higher bars.

I only had one for a coupla days as a loaner. (And it was so good, ended up buying one, an S tho' as I already had a naked bike)

The naked also has lower pegs and nippier gearing and still quite narrow at the bars. All good for a commute.

Put a massive ghey grandad flyscreen on it and you'll probably never get stopped by the cops cos you'll look like a jolly sensible type. :p (You can always dump it in the "better" weather.)

I'm supposed to be out of that heavy price bracket being 27, 7 years NCB on my car and never having been involved in an accident but have 3 points from 2 1/2 years ago for doing 42 in a 30.

Sounds good, will be giving them a call today. The bike looks in much better nick than my current one and wont actually mind spending a bit of cash on it. As for the better weather, I need a bike that's not going to make me thrash it around like an idiot as I'm still in the "honeymoon" period with the acceleration and speed....

No bother. No I don't do PM's unless people are on my contact list, total strangers have no need to be sending me messages. Just remember computers can't dig you in the ribs and smile as you read a post. ;-)

Is this just to get you to work and back and nothing else? ie: you actually give a damn what bike it is, what it looks like, etc.

The reason I ask is it brings up a whole load of options if pride of ownership isn't important.

I got a job offer in London last year (80 miles one way) and didn't accept it in the end. If I had though I was dead set on a Honda Deauville, great mpg, great comfort, great weather protection, and shaft drive. But then I have a nice Daytona in the garage to make me smile at weekends.

You could also in that case look at maxi scoots, etc.

A Yamaha TDM is also worth a look.

Cool. Thats how I left out the bit about lower gearing and wide upright bars making it a schoosh to wheelie. :)

Happy shopping!

Unless you buy a 250cc or less, you won't find a bike that changes that IMHO. I don't know anyone who's bought a different bike to slow them down and it's worked. Only your brain and your throttle hand will slow you down.

I wouldn't say image isn't an issue but I'll say no to a scooter as I just would not feel safe doing 20 odd mile down M1 in Morning on a scooter but I am open to more suggestions.

Yeah I realise this but a 1000cc bike is only going to make it worse by having more power on tap. 650 is pretty much my limit (self imposed) at the moment due to the reason mentioned above and due to experience so that rules that yamaha out unfortunately.

Honda CBF 600 S - had one as my first bike, mind bendingly boring to ride but if you want something upright and for commuting, it'll happily do that. Comfy and has a decent fairing as well. Not sure what bhp it is, it's the cbr600 engine but de-tuned.

Well the decision was kind of taken out of my hands slightly as on the way home Friday one of the spark plugs decided it was going to go due to getting soaked. Bike sounds rough as hell and has no power. Started looking around and test rode a few bikes... I have ended up with a 2007 Kawasaki ER6-f with ABS, Heated Grips, Scottoiler, topbox, FSH with 11k on it for £2700

Lovely ride compared to the SV but definitely doesn't have the poke the SV did.

Don't get a bandit MK1 or CBF600 the seats are REALLY uncomfortable - the bandit seat actually leans into the tank so crushes your grapes and the CBF was just turrible.

The MK1 SV650 was excellent for munching motorway miles - quite comfy apart from the lack of screen for me.

How about a versys?

ME ME ME!!! Street slowed me down... ;)

So what you say is you want something comfortable that will do you an 80 mile round trip at decent speeds and won't burn fuel like its going out of fashion... Not cool but how about a 250 super scoot?

I looked at this thing a month or so ago... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-YP-250-MAJESTY-SCOOTER-LOW-MILEAGE-NEW-MOT-AND-TAX-/150908415212?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2322d7acec

At that time they wanted £1295 for it... If I keep waiting I might get it free!!!
