I've quite fancied a set of these for a while, they look really good. Saw a secondhand set on eBay and got them for £120. That's the level 2 inner "safety" bit and a set of what I think is the "plexi" overtrousers.
Well impressed with the quality and build, looking at them you feel as safe as in a set of leathers.
Really comfy as well and nice and warm compared to the aldi cr*p they're replacing!
However, in typical style it p*ssed it down on the way home and I have a damp crotch :(
Decisions decisions... do I live with getting a bit damp or send these back and spend an extra £60 on a new set of plexi 2 overtrousers...
The dryway membrane in my jacket has lasted fine for near enough 5 years and probably approaching 100,000 miles. Hmmm.
send them back as they are faulty.

Who's had textiles and stayed completely dry?
Me. I've got a set of Halvarrsons & they're great. Did a trip to Scotland last year in the pouring rain & while the others were stopping to change in & out of over suits I was dry & warm the whole time.

So that's 2 votes on the side of send these back, keep the inners and replace the outers...
Any horror stories of "ah all textile pants leak a bit after a month anyway"

Me.
I have HG Goretex gear and even after 400 miles to Kielder and back in torrential rain, I was warm and dry.
Just ask crashy McGee, AKA Andrewsmth how moist it was!

Send them back if you want to, you can leave the inners behind. Cos the plexi gets wet, and if it gets wet, well it aint no use to you
My Rukka goretex stuff is 100% so far, and I've been in some biblical downpours on the continent. Got it cheap from http://biker-land.de/index.php a few years ago. Excellent supplier IME.
I agree with the consensus. The difference between good textiles which will keep all (but a Hurricane) out and everything else is worth the extra money for winter/rain riding. Only time I ever got wet (before trashing the suit on the track) was dripping down the neck before getting a snood and through the helmet. That was it.
All my HG textiles (that have claimed to be waterproof) have always kept me dry. not got wet through in any of the gaer-trousers of jacket.

With a big burn mark on the leg!!
Race wets were a viable alternative tyre to Touring tyres that day

My Halvarssons have been dry except the croch, except at AR.
Going in the bin as the road rash has got them

Correct me..... You've bought a set of second hand trousers and want to send them back because they leak?

Correct.
The listing did say "waterproof" and like I say my 100,000 mile, multiple-crashed havarssons korax jacket is still waterproof! Not an unreasonable expectation for kit that was £400 new...
You think this unreasonable?

Who's had textiles and stayed completely dry?
Me, and that's ****ty spada crap that I bought when still learning.
Still wear it when it's raining, still dry after a couple years daily use.

The HG Goretex trousers I have seem to have lasted well through the winter, I seem to have remained dry so far. Considering I got them in the sale at halfprice I really can't complain. And DB, there's no harm in trying to save money on kit, £400 on new stuff ain't feasible for us. It would be nice though!

Sorry Mike, maybe wasn't clear on my opinion of ****ty - yes they keep me dry, but I wouldn't fancy crashing in them.
Looking into a rain oversuit for my leathers.

No problem and I'm sorry for the sharp reply, being a grump this morning! :(
I actually would not mind (relatively speaking!) crashing in my Spada textiles as they still seem to be well made and decent quality. I have crashed quite spectacularly in a Spada textile jacket in the past and they stood up to hitting the road at 40+ very well. The HG textiles I was wearing over my leather jeans were toast. I still have the crashed jacket as a spare and my son currently uses it to commute to college as it is still waterproof and warm after it was repaired. It is why I bought Spada in the first place as I could not afford / justify Gore-tex kit.
FWIW I have Spada Circuit jacket and Milan pants. I do not ride very often in the rain as all my biking is for pleasure.

Glad to hear spada hold up well, they were all I could afford at the time with the horrific price of rider training!!

My HG Goretex kecks are the only textiles ever to keep me dry....and believe me, I've tried lots!
Who's had textiles and stayed completely dry?
Me.
11 years in Gericke Voyager kit and a further 3 years in Held jacket. The Held trousers let water in once but I haven't worn them in the rain since to find out if it was a one-off.

Going to get a new set of plexi 2 outers for the safety trousers, does anyone have any good prices available anywhere? Best I can find is £140 on eBay...
Could try http://www.vcustoms.co.uk/
They do 10% off first purchase with their "VIP" scheme and free p&p at that value.
I've had a couple of good deals from them, give them a call, very friendly bunch IME.

Well I sent them back to the eBay seller and bought some new plexi 2 outers for the safety pants system.
Absolutely lovely and toasty, nice dry knackers :)
The safety inner bit feels as robust as leathers and warm to boot. Most confidence inspiring textiles I've ever seen.
Now just to find time to give my Korax jacket a good wash and a few coats of Fabsil to restore the water repellent character of the outer to let it dry out as fast and the job's a good un!
interesting. i'm on the lookout for some new gear as i'm a bit fed up of having to put overproofs on and off.

Is it possible to unwatch/listen to something? Darren I feel you've stolen part of my life that I'll never get back.
Chris, you just wearing these over the top of your work pants?
Thats it, just one layer? no need for thermals etc?
Is it the same up top? ie, you've got your Walton t shirt, then just this jacket?
I'm wearing a godlike amount of layers and still fairly chilly, these sound to be worth the investment.

Bottom half is these straight over the top of a pair of combats.
But they're a heavy, knitted-like pair of pants with the armour, then the "plexi" waterproof shell over the top. So a lot more layers and insulation than your average set of textiles.
I didn't buy the safety jacket (but I would given how good these are)
On top, 2 long sleeved thermal shirts, a fleece, then korax jacket.

Can't remember if you're still wearing the braces with the pants, or are you zipping it in now?
yorkie_chris
13-12-12, 09:32 AM
Using braces.
Oh and back protector in there somewhere, considering stopping using my full race style back protector and going back to the one in the jacket so I can zip the jacket and pants together.
