Eventually got round to checking the output from the alternator, I know f*** all about electric, so AC coming out the alternator (3 yellow wires) at idle was 26AC across all three yellow wires, at increases to 48 AC at 3500 rpm across all three yellow wires. I checked the DC coming out of reg/rec and was 0.86 volts, the reg/rec after 10 mins was very hot to the touch. Now I've charged the battery and it held charge, the battery and reg/reg are a month old and were brand new :( does this confirm reg/r
ec? Cheers

Anyone alive?
I don't know.
However, explain what your problem is and why you are all of a sudden testing your rec/reg.
Tell us a story rather than wanting an instant answer...
Good luck.

Previous posts explain all :) battery receives charge at idle fine apart from that with and without lights its just drains the power from the battery.:(
Would have made more sense to keep it all in one thread for future references.
Good luck with your fault...! Hopefully someone will answer shortly

From the results you have it sounds as if the alternator is OK, but to be certain check the AC output again at 5000 rpm, you should get 70 VAC on all three phases, and whatever the exact result all three should be substantially the same +/- a few volts, but no more. If that checks out OK check all the wiring carefully for continuity and insulation, but from what you say the regulator is suspect.

Do exactly as Sid has told you (1st rule of sv club, always listen to Sid :) ) and if you get the 70 vac and you still have hastle have a look through my old thread http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=164281 just incase its of any use. HTH

Did you remember to change your multimeter to read DC??
If you did and your only getting 0.86V DC out of the rec/reg it's duff, should be spitting out around 13,5-14,4V DC

That's kinda the answer I was looking for! Yeah it was on DC :(

Reg/rec is only a month old LOL, Think I'll be getting myself a different unit and fit that!
