Just got this email from my local Honda Owners Club.

New bike tolls on the Stelvio Pass!

Just received the shocking news from Coordinamento Italiano Motociclisti (CIM) (MAG's Italian equivalent) that a toll of 10 Euro is to be levied on the Stelvio Pass in the Italian Alps.

This will be the same for cars and bikes.

CIM are organising a protest on the Stelvio on Sunday 23rd September, so if you need an excuse to head to one of the best motorcycle roads in Europe, what could be better?

Coming a day after the Super MoT protest in Belgium you could try to combine the two for a mad weekend of motorcycle politics!

Contact info@cim-fema.it if you need more information.

hhhmmm with all the revenue raised will they put it back into the road, if they do then that would be worth every penny.

Never done the Stelvio on a bike but have competed in a 1966 Mini Cooper S on a car rally -- 48 (I think !) hairpins to the top, awesome road , well worth 10 Euro : I expect that the revenue raised will go to the emergency services who scrape bikes and cars up regularly ......

All heavenly. And if I was in the area again would have no hesitation in stumping up €10. Though if that is what it costs for bikes, cars should be double. Coaches and motorhomoists triple.:smt071

Wouldn't complain about paying 10 euros to be honest, it is well worth it, and if it cuts down on the amount of traffic then all the better.

There are lots of toll roads in that region anyway so can't see why it's such a big deal.

Maybe they could throw in a free sausage at one of the stalls at the top to sweeten the deal.

10 euros for a fabulous road? I'd pay that. 10 euros for Stelvio? No, thanks. I've ridden on better, more enjoyable roads in Alps than Stelvio.

There are loads of superb roads in that region as mufman says. However, if you're going from the UK for an Alpine tour, Eu10 to do the Stelvio isn't a deal breaker IMO. For most of us it may well be a once in a lifetime thing. Shame but hey-ho, road maintenance in those regions must be horrendously expensive.

Make it part of a day tour and take it all in, but don't waste the money on a day of poor weather, you won't enjoy it!

Paid Eu5 (I think) for the Timmelsjoch (near Innsbruck Austria/Italy) and that was nothing compared to the Stelvio. It did snow on us though, 1st July!

A lot of folk also baulk at the Swiss motorway vignette (Eu40-odd now for a year), but IMO the Swiss motorways are worth the money, especially when you pay Eu10+ for Calais-Reims one way for example. Just budget for certain tolls and marvel at the roads. If you don't want to pay, stay in the UK, the M25 has its attractions, I'm sure.

Stelvio isn't worth 10 euros.
Did it this year and there were far-far better roads.
