View Full Version : First Ride Out
Hi All
My first real post and thought I'd put up a pic of my (new to me) SV on my first ride out.
Did around 120 miles on Saturday Morning/Afternoon and loved every second of it.

Good man! Keep up the fine work!;)
Haze, up date your info of your location, post in your local area too. Plenty of people up for a ride and meet!

Nice bike :) where abouts in Herefordshire are you?
Will do.

Yeah, we need to big up the Wales area! All these other groups - the GM's and PM's and the Northerners - are organising rides all the time. We've had a few in Wales recently but I see loads of SV's who either aren't on the forum or aren't active on the boards.
You can always plan us a rideout ... :>

There does seem to be a lot of other rides out else where when I was seeing what's going on locally.
Where would be the best part on the forum to find ride outs around this area?

I'll post in the South and West if organising a rideout. There's been talk that the area is too big (covers all of south and west) for the actual amount of people that regularly post and participate in this board, but until/unless there's a Welsh or smaller section created I would say post/look in here for appropriate rideouts.

If someone wanted to arrange a ride-out for this area I'd definitely be down for it, even if it was just a couple of us :)

Usual routes take in Aber, Brecon, Builth/Llandod etc. This is in your vicinity so you could easily meet up with those coming from the South. Past attendees have come from Bristol/Chippenham/Swindon even which is quite a ways.
Alternatively, if there's good roads up Hereford way then I'd do it.
Main problem is the weather and dates. Last Saturday for example was perfect for an Autumn ride but such days are few and far between now. Just had a look at the monthly outlook (weather) and you can basically write off October.

I really want to do a Wales ride, and I know a friend or two who might be interested too. The weather is pretty awful, but there's bound to be a few dry days.
Happy to join in if you get something organised. Saturdays or Sundays are OK for me.
Some good roads around Herefordshire but I prefer Welsh roads due to their better condition!
Did a trip out to Aberystwyth once on a 125 to have an ice-cream on the beach front, thats a nice road.

Weekends can be a problem for me as I work in the afternoons. I can get time off, but weekdays are easier.

Weekdays are definitely the best time to be riding in Wales. Fewer caravans, and 35mph flat cap Rover drivers. Fewer of the two wheeled loons intent on getting their knee down on public roads full of weekend traffic.
Weekday riding is a much more enjoyable affair.
I have some time off work 1st/2nd (Thu/Fri) November with nothing to do at the moment if anyone fancies going for a ride?

Just so you know, North Wales police have a speeding crackdown at the moment, not directed at bikes in particular but they are very active with speed guns and not just the vans.
Stick to the posted limits in 30s and 40s for sure and be wary on roads that invite high speeds.

The 1st could work for me, weather permitting.

If you put a possible route out there that would be a start. Some people might show interest depending on how easy it is to get to or how far one would have to ride to make a meet point. I could find the time off but would be unwilling to ride more than an hour to a meet point.

Cheers for the info mate. During the summer (or what we had on it) there was distinct absence of police. I'd begun taking it for granted that they can't be bothered so this is good to know.

I wouldn't know where to start with the route, I think I'll leave it up to someone who knows Wales better haha.
How long do you chaps go out for on a ride?
This looks OK, only gone to Aber before so from their onwards would be new to me.

looks good, all these roads are new to me and I would definitely like to check out the roads round the Brecons at some point :)
For a group ride with people coming from south, you probably wanna take the A4112 to Brecon and then a circuitous route, taking the A483 back to Leo. 5 hours is about right on a good day. But you can do as much or as little as you like/leave off wherever's convenient for you.
An easy route is A4112, A438, A40 to Llandovery. Good stopping point and then several routes to either the coast or into the mountains. For a more spectacular route its A470 all the way north baby! But this is a whole day affair so weather must be spot on.
