View Full Version : CARNAGE: Filming date(s) 20th/21st October

Fallout
15-10-12, 08:37 AM
Bearing deadlines and stuff in mind, the filming date(s) really have to be this coming weekend (20th/21st). Location should be fairly local. Nathan to confirm if we can use the old military hanger, otherwise this week I'll find somewhere else.

If you're interested in helping, please can you confirm which dates you're available for shananigans. Anyone who doesn't want to be on camera can still help. I'm going to play around with attaching a mic to a long stick and see if I can get a good boom mic recording solution this week. So the following other rolls are available:

-Sound man (requirement: ability to keep boom out of shot and not be a pleb)
-Camera man (requirement: a vague understanding of framing the shot)
-Man who walks behind camera man and helps him avoid crashing into things (a mild interest in health and safety or touching the camera man's ****)

Please confirm availability!

Attendees:
Fallout (Both days)
Spank (Both days)
DaddyJob (Both days)
ThunderAce (Both days)

What equipment are you running in terms of camera/mic? If it was a bit nearer, and I wasn't out for a mates birthday on Friday night/at the official dinner on sunday I'd have come down to help out..

Well ifs and whats are useless to me. Consider yourself a slag! ;)

Well my camera is quite lame, but it's new lame. So while it's towards the bottom of the range, it is at least HD and suitable for basic filming tasks. I wouldn't like to use it in low light or for sports footage. As for the sound, I have a great little omni-directional mic I bought for environmental sound recording (for game sound effects) years go. Tiny, but cool. Going to attach that to a stick of bambo and plug it into my IRiver MP3 recorder at the other end. Voila. Budget but decent quality audio.

audio should be ok for what you need :)

Camera-wise, is it worth borrowing or hiring a D-SLR with HD video capability? Seems a *LOT* of video production guys are running D-SLR's in various steering wheel mounts lately, great optics = great video..

Just sayin'... And yes I am the slag of all snacks

Paul, I offered him my DSLR with HD video! I even offered to drive it to him. I don't have a separate mic but we do have one for the work camera which I'm sure they would have lent to me. But no I shall instead spend my weekend lazing on my sofa eating Maltesers and quietly sniffling at being snubbed.

Now that I don't recall.

It was where you said it would cost you £20 in diesel to collect it and I replied that I wasn't expecting you to collect it. You also reckoned your time was worth about £25 per hour and I may have said more like £2.50.

Simon Keating (http://www.facebook.com/keating.simon) 4 hours of my time, £20 diesel etc. I could buy a cheapo tripod for that Clare http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/images/blank.gif but the offer is appreciated.

Clare Skinner (http://www.facebook.com/clare.skinner.7547) I wasn't expecting you to drive to me you muppet! And I've worked it out that that tripod is £120 at least, so taking off £20 for diesel that means you reckon you are worth £25 an hour. I'd say closer to £2.50.

Hey I'm happy to be your camera op.

What camera have you got? Does it take xlr inputs, or can you get you get your hands on a Zoom recorder?

I filmed a promo for ESPN on a DSLR, with Zoom recorder and a 416 (Boom Mic) so it fine for that you can justy sync clap for edit.

I can loan equipment of mates, let me know what your after. I also live close by to a cheap sound rental company, there kit is quaility but well used. Can you do food and fuel?

Quoted out of context! With all that random blabbing you do, I didn't read that as a kind offer to deliver it, I read it as some sort of illogical insult (see PMT thread). :p

Thanks mate. I think you may be overestimating the budget and professionalism here though. The fact I'm putting some effort into organisation is not an indication as to the quality of this production. It's just because I know how difficult it is to actually get friends to help with anything like this. :D

Fuel is a definite no. I will probably stretch to snacks although I believe Mrs Ace may be doing some sort of catering (tbc). The budget is zero. The cam is a Samsung HMX-F80. It has no inputs at all! So really the camera operator will be limited to record start and record stop, and pointing it in the right direction.

Well, firstly, you're not a friend. You're more of a slave. Secondly, I felt sorry for you and invited you round out of pity. The gravel would've gone twice as far if we'd relied on my spacial awareness rather than yours. And lastly .... can't think of another insult right now.

Are you in next weekend? I have you down for sound man.

Did you get my txt?

Apparently we would need to do a risk assessment and send that to Sodexo who would then inform the insurers, who would then reply with a cover price, Sodexo would then reply to us. Looking at 3-4 weeks minimum.

Sorry mate, another example of how well the army is organised!:(

They would probally want public libaility insurance as well, just so your aware yes I know its zero budget film, I would suggest having it just in case I normally get mine through the union.

You need the actual insurance to cover you, I have had to produce it several times at a location otherwise you just can't film. It is there in case someone gets injured, you break something thats not yours ect.

Now Thunderace has let you down how about working with the old-school army. Several pill boxes about which could look pretty cool.

At the top of Beacon Hill Road <Link> (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=beacon+hill,+fleet&hl=en&ll=51.237014,-0.81831&spn=0.007429,0.017145&sll=51.243972,-0.822258&sspn=0.029498,0.068579&hnear=Beacon+Hill+Rd&t=h&z=16) is some army land with public access and there's a massive bomb crater with a pretty cool bigger than average pill box overlooking it. I'm sure you could make something of that. I'm working from home next couple of days so could take you up there if you want to scout it out.

More like a reinforced concrete shed with small windows. Not been there for a while so may be bigger/smaller/less cool than I remember. May well have a dead tramp or two in it by now.

Nothing to do with filming, it's because the building has been condemned, so no civvies allowed in but apparently it's fine for us to use, coz if your a soldier and a 500ft square roof lands on your head you'll be fine.

Does it have twin walls?

Unfortunately last time I was up there I didn't have the foresight to do a building survey or take location pictures. You do have to walk 3-400 yards from a road to get to it so not ideal if you've got loads of kit.

Might be worth a look. I'll start researching alternative locations tomorrow and will get in the wagon and scope them out. If there's no luck, you can take me on a romantic date to a pillbox.

As for public liability, that's an interesting one. I don't need it for using the helmet cam, so I wonder why I'd need it for this? I am not a registered business and this isn't a paid job of work. As far as I'm concerned it's a bunch of friends going out messing about with a camera (and a chainsaw .. ahem). Probably not the right way to go about it, but not sure who/what would be sued in the event of an accident, and there wouldn't be any money to get your mitts on anyway. :(

Still ideally need one more person for the weekend, otherwise things may be a bit tricky. I can play the Randy McBane character and perhaps use Nathan's gasmask if nobody is game. Definitely need two people willing to be in front of the camera for the simple roles though. I have Nathan down as one such person. Anyone else?

Yeah, it'll be on net as I try and raise funding for my game. It'll be on kickstarter.co.uk which is due to launch in the next few weeks.

I'll be making a post on the org begging those interested in PC games to check it out and support the project if they want to see the game completed and don't want me to die of starvation and have to start robbing banks.
