Caught these two on San Giorgio Maggiore with a cop boat on the grand canal enforcing the 7nmph yes 7 nautical miles/hour limit. There was a third but he was giving some poor unfortunate a ticket.

I guess they are the same the world over. But in this place I should think being a bike cop would not get you far.
Although seeing a fire boat and ambulance boat on blues/twos was a novelty.
I loved it there, just spending a day getting lost in all the different areas. Very strange seeing no roads and wheeled vehicles. The dust-cart boats made me chuckle. And I have very fond memories of a certain balcony.

Not cops but the Broads Wardens do the same on the Norfolk Broads for any vessel under power-------------Not sail.
Few years since I have sailed there but it used to be 4knots or possibly mph

Having just come in from a shift patrolling the Manchester Eid celebrations on my bike, I can quite happily state that I would rather be in Venice checking boats.

Dad worked for them for several years. He had little ping-pong bats, with the speeds on each side, to flash at speeding holiday makers.
Most of the Broads is 4 mph now I think, 6 in some places.
