Not sure if this is in the right section so mods, sorry if it is and please feel free to move.

Basically, Im just wondering who has mounted a GoPro, Drift, Contour etc or any other camera on their bike and where and how they did it.

Ive got a bullet cam in the fake air vent under the headlight on my K3 650S but the quality isnt too great. Ive just replaced it with a GoPro and as it is bulkier and wont fit in the air vent, I am looking for other options.

Im not overly bothered about seeing the speedo but it must be forward facing. If anyone has any ideas or experiences they would like to share, I would like to hear them.

Thanks

My STR had matt paint so it wouldn't stick so I mounted it my helmet but now I have a K1200R I can mount it to the tank or side, have you got the suction cup? If so attach to you fairing, tank, rear fairing, front mud guard or screen, the quality will be far superior to the bullet cam.

Ive no doubt that the quality will be miles better than the bullet cam. Thats the main reason I bought the GoPro. I'm still going to use the bullet cam though, rear facing and mounted to one of the unused rear footpeg mounts I think.

I do have the suction cup mount, yes, but Im wary of using it. I'll be doing trackday riding mostly and I would prefer the camera to be bolted down a little more securely than using a suction cup. I realise this gives less options for mounting positions, but Id rather that then see the camera whizz off down the track or worse still, into another rider.

track day rules state that it must be tethered.

the suction cup is very strong.

My last couple of track days didnt mind that the bullet cam wasnt tethered. It was bolted in though.

Get a mount made up to bolt where the mirrors attach.

Will work as a blanking plate if you are taking the mirrors off, or if leaving on, just put it between body and mirror,

Now THAT is a good idea. Have you done this? Do you know someone who has? How can I make this mount? Talk to me!

There's a guy in the USA that does these...

I've been very tempted to order a set for the 750 to use on trackdays if I end up doing some on it.

I like the look of those in the link you sent. I dont like the sound of $50 plus shipping though.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I havent really got anywhere with mounting my GoPro yet. Has anyone got one mounted on their bike and if so, where and how?

What kind of view do you want? I would decide on the shot you want first, then work out to mount in that postion. I'd also have it on a lanyard or somethinng similar in case the mount fails.

I have a mount on my screen using 3M VHB. Used my mates Gopro for a session at Mallory no problem. You barely notice the black mount on the tinted screen when camera is not on. He mounts his camera the same way and has done lots of sessions with it on. Got my own camera at xmas so looking to do more vids starting at Oulton on 20th March :D.

Lots of options really, suction or mechanical fixing plus a tether.

With my drift I used the handlebar mount around the pillion footrest assembly to get a good rear facing **** with the drift (helps having a rotation lense!).

One good shot I saw was from under the nose cone albeit need to make sure it doesn't impact on the front wheel under braking.

Some people mount on the fuel tank looking at the clocks and screen although I think some tracks don't allow this.

Just don't put it on the pillion seat staring at your bum the whole session!

For Go Pro look on youtube for mounting. There are many videos including this one:

Or

Or

The drift has a whole different set of unique mounting positions suiting its characteristics.

Cheers for the help so far guys. First of all, Im definitely looking for a forward facing shot. Rear facing footage will be recorded with a bullet cam that I already have. Its only a small resolution so will be OK for putting in the corner of a main shot and still have room for overlaying data using Racechrono2avi.

So, forward facing GoPro. Ideally, not using a tank mount as it will get in the way on track days. Showing the clocks is not a big deal. I dont really care if they are on or not. Being behind the screen could help with audio and wind noise, but I'll cross that bridge if I get to it. I also dont want to use any of the sticky pads on the bodywork as those things NEVER come off again!

Im quite interested in a mount on the yolk nut, providing mine has a hole in it. I have to check that yet. Other than that though, I really cant think of where else to put it. Under the nose could be good aswell but Ive never seen anyone else mount one there which makes me think its not a good idea. So, any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

I'm in work and out tonight so can't get photos at the moment, but I've done this and can take a couple at the weekend if wanted. I have a dark screen on my bike so don't use it very often, but I can easily switch to the stock clear screen if ever I want to use this setup.

Basically my setup for it is one Telferizer (http://www.telferizer.com/) specific to your bike from Bob, then from RAM Mount a connecting piece (http://www.ram-mount.co.uk/short-double-socket-arm-for-1-ball-p-1010.html) (other lengths are available) plus the camera mount (http://www.ram-mount.co.uk/round-base-with-threaded-stud-for-camera-mount-p-1654.html) along with a tripod mount from GoPro (http://gopro.com/camera-mounts/tripod-mount), all nicely fitted together.

That then gives an angle like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0bx4FgeZ8s) (that's looking through the dark screen).

I just checked some photos I have here on my work PC and my yolk nut DOES have a hole in it. Im still on a clear screen and have no plans to change that, so Im interested to see your setup Christopher.

Just checked out your video and something like that would be fine for me I think. Maybe a little higher up showing more road and less clocks, but thats all personal preference. The set up in principle looks spot on though.
