View Full Version : Nail in rear tyre - ride or not?

Hey guys

I found a nail in my rear tyre this week. I have a new set which are ready to be fitted anyway.

The pressure has dropped slightly over the week. If I pump back up to the correct pressure will it be safe for me to ride the 8 miles to the garage where I am getting the tyres changed? I plan to ride very carefully.

Cheers

130psi is a dangerously high pressure for your rear tyre.

130MPH haha . Not psi.
I run 40psi in rear . 130psi would blow the rear tyre ofF

How can you be sure? Can you in the name of science try?

for god sake and the sake of the amulance crew , dont tell him to do that.

My tyres run at 125psi they're no wider than my thumb and they don't blow off.

widepants

if parts of me ran at 125psi Id dofo blow off

Dicky Ticker
12-11-12, 11:35 AM
Yes you may run your tyres at 125psi but you don't ride at 130mph on your pushbike

Riding a motorbike at 130mph with a nail in the tyre is just plain stupid and even madder to suggest that it is safe.
Fortunately the OP did not do this-----------wise man.

Indeed, I would imagine motorcycle tyres wouldn't blow off either, handling may be slightly compromised though;)

Ive said i had 2 punctures and still did 130mph and if he has one then its not as bad . Anyway hes got new tyres so its fine

I was kind of feeling bad afterwards, I don't need someones life on my posts, there have been bad work accidents with tyre changing etc etc, so be careful, there are just alot of energy stored inside these rubber dougnuts.

So now he knows his bike is slow by 1mph-------------probably the extra weight of the nail in his tyre

DJ123
12-11-12, 11:27 PM
All apart from that is a theoretical top speed calculated by the gear ratios-which (i doubt) would take into consideration environmental factors, friction, weight etc etc etc

Stenno
12-11-12, 11:56 PM
Would it be effected by inflating your rear tyre to 130psi?

DJ123
12-11-12, 11:58 PM
yes. By inflating your tyre to such a high psi it would have the affect of creating a larger circumference. Thus meaning you would travel further per rotation of the wheel

Stenno
13-11-12, 12:10 AM
I thought as much. Makes a mockery of those who change their sprockets when all you need to do is inflate or deflate your tyre. Fools.
