View Full Version : Recommend me a Textile Jacket
I have had my Frank Thomas jacket now for 3 years, no real complaints other than getting wet inner arms when its raining and its looking a bit filthy and tired now after 20,000 miles.
Been looking to trade up and really don't want to spend top side of £300 so no Rukka gear!
What are folks expierence with Halvarssons?

£170 for the Jofama and £174 for the HG?
I think I might have just found my next textile jacket, thanks Andrew.
What sort of weathers have you worn it in? Are you commuting with it?

I've used mine for 3 years about 30k mostly commuting, the leathers got used twice this year :smt103.
Used up to the snow falls most years (this year I parked early as the brakes need a master cylinder and the forks need stanchions).
I've used in all weathers, have got wet crotch when its been unfunny wet (AR10 wet!), used it for a 1,000 mile tour in July in bloody scorching weather and crashed) hard in them twice (Damaged the outer codura on the trousers first time; £30 repair at the leathers shop, and rips on left side from ankle to shoulder)
All I do to them is wash with Nixwax cleaner and waterproofer. Ralph if you do get them spend the £30 on the L2 Halvarssons/ Forcefield insert

Is that just the back protector? I have a couple of CE back protectors already.

Don't suppose any of you know if the Halvasson jackets fit the zips in A* jeans? Could do with a new textile jacket and finding a stockist of A* jackets near me is proving tricky.

I have this, got two as I bought the first and lost the receipt so couldn't return it, I have the exact same Jacket but in grey and white. Is warm comfy and most importantly it keeps me dry, it has removable lining and various zipped vents.
Its a medium

Take them with you see if they fit. Coarse YYK to my knowledge

I have an elderly Spyke textile jacket that does not fit the zips on my A* jeans. Could do with a new one but A* seem to have a fairly unique zip design that does not fit other makes. I have an A* leather jacket for warmer weather so don't want to change the jeans.

I've got the korax and it's been ace.
I really like the look of the neck thingy on the optimal though.
Went for the Halvarssons Proximo in the end. Bit dissapointed there was NO back armour at all! Not even a token gesture. Luckily had just bought a forcefield one for £20 and went straight in! Think it their 'lite' but uses the same material as other back protectors. Just your not paying twice as much for stitching/edging.
Zip didn't fit to my leather trousers so have had a conversion piece made up by local tailor. Just took trousers in tonite and matched the zip, stitched that to jacket zip! Sorted. (and can still use old jacket if required)
Jacket is very well made with lots of features. Lacks bulk of previous jacket but suppose that is a good thing, just my brain telling me bulk = protection, probably not tho'. Been out today for a wee blast and other than my kidney area getting cold due to not having the zip convertion piece made up, was toasty. Just base layer and t-shirt underneath in 3'c!
Costly, but am well impressed with the quality and warmth, especially from what feels a thinner less bulky jacket.

Good stuff Ron!!
Halvarssons gear is good and thin, my winter liner doesn't go in until late October normally

I might try that route if I don't find an A* jacket I like. Good suggestion,
I have a Richa Rix 2. Link (http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/34005)
Been very happy with it. Has a couple of zipped inserts so you can make it more/less warm/waterproof depending on the season. That makes it a pretty good all-rounder, but dedicated winter and summer jackets might be better.
