£800. Ie always wanted to go but won't pay those prices. Going to motogp in estoril next year as we have a loan of a flat, and will get some sun and a holiday at the same time.

It'll cost me £200 for a ferry ticket from Larne, I want to go so bad and have had the offer of an room cheapish. Not to bad in my thoughts. Even though it's £79 to scotland. But the misses say otherwise. Maybe next year :(

My guess £600

£472 for both of us and 2 bikes.

Bloody ridiculous but oh so worth it :)

Accommodation is costing around£1500 but that's for 6 of us sharing a huge house in Onchan for the week

yeah the prices are stupidly over the top the same happens up the northcoast for the northwest 200 my old work a hotel would put up the prices by a fair amount and make breakfast an add on during the week of the racing.

But still we will come in our thousands. :-D

If I get to go in 2014 I think i'm going to camp me thinks. Scrimp and save as much as possible.

so that's best part of a grand plus spending money to watch people on motorbikes go along a stretch of road doing silly speeds. i don't get it but each to their own and all that.

Its our holiday so don't mind spending that much.

I have been each year for 6 years and love it. It's not just about the racing (although that's awesome) it's a great atmosphere for the whole of race week.

Flipping heck, that's a lot of money!
It's not something I'd spend my money on, but it floats your boat though!

minimorecambe
22-11-12, 10:12 PM
Depends really what race it is as I like watching sidecars on a corner rather than a straight.

A few of my favourites -

Bray Hill
Hillberry
Creg
Bradon

We haven't really had the bike the other years I have been so not been able to get round the island to places like Glen Helen, The Bungalow, Gooseneck etc.

This year we will though, although not sure I fancy being stuck on the mountain when they decide that they are going to postpone racing for a few hours!

People probably spend more on a weeks holiday abroad

less than 500 PP and that's with taking a bike, my last abroad holiday cost more than that and i was sat by a pool all day.

I was referring to the boat ;)

Aye, family of three was around 1500 quid with flights, posh hotel and meals last time we went abroad. Probably be far more now, plus one more too.

It's always been very popular, I just didn't expect it to cost so much.

I think its very cheeky tbh.
I'm sorry if I sound thick, as its something that's never really interested me to attend, but ferry return to France is cheaper than that. Is it an overnight or something.to cost that much?..again sorry for being thick!

I think that the main problem is there's no competition. Its just the one company that has it, so they can charge whatever they please!

Wideboy
22-11-12, 10:34 PM
i agree, it cost me 70 quid return from france. There is only one company that own the docking rights for the IOM (steampacket) so they can charge what ever the fook they feel like, so when an event is on they cash in. Its all wrong and the IOM government/council or what ever they have over there must get a kick back from it otherwise they'd open it up.

it really is a joke, the ferry is a POS and I've seen the very same boat on a 1960's clip of the TT.

this yr we were looking at going to Normandy and the price was around £60 ,the next week in school hols it was around £260. Supply and demand and maybe a bit of profitering

Dover - Calais £50 return each
Toll roads to the alps £40 each
Week in hotels staying in ski resorts out of season £400

I know where I would rather take my bike.

Still, as it's been said before, each to their own. Would love to go to the TT myself but just cant justify the price.

Have fun :D

It always has cost a fortune even back in the early 90's when I went over a coupla times.

It is something that needs to be done if you like bikes even only the once. Amazing place. The racing is only part of it. An absolute buzz.

We book our ferry for the following year as soon as we get back from the TT

I would love to go one year and am quite envious you have been so many times. This year we are off to France for two weeks camping in Annecy and corresponds with the Tour De France. Cost for Ferry, tolls, petrol and campsite (with elec) is £730 which I don't think is too bad.

Hope you guys have a blast though, its worth every penny if its what you want to do!! :D

They do!!! Steampacket is owned by a international bank (Australian or Portugese at present), the Ben is dire TBH made worse if your on a Sunday sailing with the blue rinse brigade

Seconded, the Southern 100 is just as bad. Booking mine for July when I'm paid :D

Can I recommend on the bank at Rhencullen, just after Kirk Michael village, you have to get there pretty early to get a place but there is usually a butty wagon and a tardis (Portaloo) there. You'll be looking at where all the pictures of the bikes with the front wheel in the air and the '30' sign in the background are taken.

I went for over 10 years from '91 and the ferry prices were a p*ss-take then, the B & B's began getting in on the act, putting 2 single beds in a room only big enough for one etc. they get used as D.S.S. halfway houses most of the rest of the year! That along with a feeling of having done it to death and hearing the news about D.J. in '03 put me off, but since ITV4 started doing their excellent coverage and Closer To The Edge has coaxed me back into it again, along with our favourite motorcycle racing there!

I have camped at Quaterbridge. It's alright for the men facility wise but women's are a bit lacking.
It's in walking d stance to the grandstand and Douglas prom.

There is also the TT campsite up on Goveners Road next to the grandstand. That looks a lot better :)

We have done home stay for the past few years though and Thatmuch better for me :p

Ah the 'government' monopolised Steam Racket Company. They're a total over-priced joke. I can never take my car or bike home with them so I don't bother using them at all. I'm sure if they made some concessions to residents who would use them year round they would get more business.

absolute rubbish.

ben my chree didnt even come into service until 1998 and was refit in 2004 and 2008 , as far as it goes its a decent boat
the fast craft that goes out of liverpool is even newer.

if the IOM government opened the dock up to everyone , who else do you thik would run boats there> proably no one, is a barely profitable route that has to be propped up by the manx government

no one else would put the investment up and keep the regularity of sailings that they do

i think 230/240 for the obat is pretty good really when you consider that when you get there you can watch for free, more or less anywhere you want, you can take your own food and drink, your not forced to pay locked in prices within a venue and stuff

The TT ahs never been a cheap deal, i dont see that theres been any difference since the film, its always got booked up in advance and due to the decline in tourism on the island in the last 30 yr hotels have always been scare and overpriced

OK it looks like there was a new one built but there was a Ben-my-chree run in the 60's

Having been on the ben my chree this year I'd say it is a PoS, I've been on better and old cross channel ferries for a fraction of the price.

Oh and btw they're not subsidized by the government, they are owned by a bank and The freight service subsidizes the passenger side. Also in 2006 steampacket were investigated by the the iom parliament for having annual profits of 36% over other operators.

Only takes a wiki search to find that out.

User Agreement

The Steam Packet Company is required to fulfil the terms of a User Agreement negotiated with the island's*Department of Transport.[citation needed]*Under the 2004 extension of the Agreement, the following minimum service levels are required:Inbound freight capacity: 7,800 lane metres per week.Service to north-west UK ports: 936 return sailings per year.Summer-period frequency to Liverpool: a daily service from April to the third week in October.Services to the east coast of Ireland: 63 return sailings per year.Compliance with the above requirements gains the sole user rights to the government-ownedlinkspan*in Douglas Harbour.[citation needed]*The Steam Packet Company owns the second linkspan, and thus controls a monopoly on roll-on-roll-off vehicle transport to and from the Isle of Man.

When did you book your tickets? As soon as they were released? When was that?

Wideboy

we booked on the Tuesday after we got back this year so the Tuesday after the TT ended , within 3 hours of the bookings opening and we got **** crossings, we're having to stay on an extra day after its all ended
