Cars just leave me feeling completely soulless and empty.

Even if the journey by bike was a complete pile of **** it always seem like an achievement just arriving safely, whether thats a good reason or not i dont care. :riding:

I'd be riding my bike to college at the moment if it wasn't for ridiculous floods everywhere.

Have any of you lot ever owned or currently own a car that actually makes you force a smile every now and then?

My car is boring, until you get some wet leaves at the top of the road, turn and accelerate hard and slide towards the kerb. then is gets exciting. Boring other than that

My crx or civic type r but most of it is just waiting for traffic to clear.

Honestly, no car in England is gonna give you the feeling of joy like a bike, not on such a regular basis.

My Skyline was immense. I had a few tail out moments and some ridiculous back road lunacy. I really want another one, but as Ad has mentioned I'd probably find it quite frustrating most of the time with all the traffic. Bikes are consistently fun, where as cars can only be fun in short bursts.

Mind you, a rear wheel or 4 wheel drive car in the wet is more fun than a bike. Tail out shananigans all the way, rather than pootling round corners dodging drain covers.

I don't particularly enjoy driving, My last job I was paid to drive everything from escorts to 17t mercs/ivecos and that pretty much killed any enjoyment I got from driving.
My last few cars have been an escort, galaxy, focus st170, mondeo tdci and now the xr2

And although the st was quick and handled nicely on the whole it wasn't that exciting to drive but the xr2 is an absolute laugh to drive!
It's 24 years old and it makes me grin every time I drive it, I do of course drive like an absolute knob though

Oh and this is an xr2

Just in case you're too young (or uneducated) that you didn't know ;-)

I learned to drive in an XR2. How cool was I at 17 :) Once I got my license I was allowed to drive my Dad's Audi Quattro from time to time too. Also my mum's Renault 5 which had a gear lever like an umberella handle sticking out of the dash and handling suggesting the front and rear were probably joined together by the carpet. All fairly engaging stuff.

My first car was a Fiat 128 3p Berlinetta. Very rare even then. It was a super-quick little car with a full length folding sunroof. That used to be very exciting in the wet as it was front wheel drive with super-skinny tyres. Could be torque steered everywhere.

From the age of 18 I had company cars for years. 18 years old and given a brand new Sierra every 2 years loads of tail-out shenanigans in those days!

I got into bikes when I realised that I could not afford to go quicker than my Audi 80 sport (uber lightweight rare car). The quick Jap stuff was not really up and running by then as we'd only just started importing FTOs and GTOs and you could not get spares or insurance back then so I got into bikes and re-baselined my understanding of acceleration!

These days I'm far more comfortable when it gets a bit squirrily in a car but definitely get more of a buzz riding the bike.

Mine makes me grin. Not as much as the bike does but I find it enjoyable none the less. I agree with spank, I'd love something like a skyline etc but I know full well that when I'm sat in the traffic jam watching the petrol gauge drop I'd most likely start crying.

A respectable 0-60 in 8 secs, good handling and rwd, loads of power.... what's not to enjoy!

I've just spent most of the last fortnight on a bike but when I wasn't on one there was the choice between the air conditioned minibus or hanging on for dear life in the back of the pick up truck. I chose the truck every time. I may have had a very bad hair fortnight but tearing through the city in Thailand in the open air with all the sights and smells is a blast.

The best fun in a car is approaching a bend at high speed... with the owner in the passenger seat shouting, "Brake, brake!!" Always makes me smile :smt077

Depends on the car, you can have some ****ing good fun in that Megane Jam ;) Drove my mates remapped 330d and oh my god that made me grin

Doesn't make a difference on the car.

With traffic like is is in the UK you'll always spend far more time frustrated than having fun.

I could have more fun in my first car, a Renault five sliding sideways round a roundabout than in my last one the civic type r because the roads were quieter and I didn't need quite as much space to drive like a loonie.

Agree with the above, you cannot enjoy a fast car on the road like you can a motorbike.

Spank86

Plus driving a car fast is a lot more about the car even in corners. Riding a bike fast is a lot more about the rider.

I deliberately buy slow and sensible cars as something expensive and fun cannot be enjoyed as said above. The money saved goes on petrol for the bike.

Live in the countryside and start work at 7am when there's hardly anything on the road. Then drive to work in a Civic Type R. If you find that boring there's something wrong!

Spank86
28-11-12, 03:04 PM
I used to do that... roads were still busy and it was still less fun than on a motorbike.

Trouble with the type R is it's too civilised. You can do 150 and it just feels like its toddling along.

Bike is of course more fun. But the type r isn't boring. Not sure what type r you had but my ep3 is like a go kart.

I just like being in anything with an engine. I think I'd still enjoy driving even if I had a prius

If I ever got a quick car again, it would have to have a turbo in it. Preferably a stupidly large one which takes all day to spool up and then halfs the atmospheric pressure for a 1 mile radius when it finally kicks in. Naturally aspirated doodahs are as Spank said, a bit too civilised for me. Nice predictable power band. What I enjoy is burying my foot into the ground, waiting a second or two, then getting a massive lump that comes from nowhere and sends me face first into a tree.

I enjoy the Dig-T Juke .
The other half always complains about chucking it about .But she is equally as bad.
Glade to live out in the backwoods .

Yeah it can be kinda fun but its too easy to corner full pelt and blast down roads, theres no challenge and no sense that you could go quicker if you had the bottle to do it.

Fast cars are fun but only if driven like a knob! However a bike is a bike, just as much fun can be had in traffic as out of it.

The comment about not the bike but the rider is spot on, I've ridden Mark_h's bike, THE MAN IS MAD! Yet still he survives, god knows how?

If you want to enjoy a fast car, late night country roads are where its at!

All true but it has a heater which makes it better than a bike at this time of the year.

Get heated gear for the bike if its too cold.

Compared to litre sports bikes there is no such thing as a fast car within the average persons budget.

All a car is to me is something that allows me to carry the family and the dog and a lot of luggage, stay warm and dry on very long journeys, not worry too much about security when I get there, and drink coffee on the way.

There are very few journeys where I would rather be in the car. If it was up to me and not a practical necessity, I wouldn't have one.

I have a liter bike and 2.5 V6 car, I like both.:D

And if you get cold at this time of year buy better kit!;)

I've got good enough kit, it keeps me warm in temperatures I enjoy riding in.

It's a bit of a faff getting it all on and taking it all off for the sake of a 15 minute journey to work however.

Sunday morning, 6.30am, just as the sun is coming up, not a soul around. Only thing on the road are a few rabbits. I'd enjoy that in any car or bike. Almost makes it worth going in on a Sunday.
