View Full Version : Radio background music - Faves?
I work from home quite a bit these days and usually have the radio on. More recently I've been listening to online radio stations from Itunes.
Does anyone else have any recommendations for good Itunes radio stations for background listening?
Mostly I'm currently listening to AmbianceLounge in the mornings and TopBlues in the afternoons with Chris Evans on Radio 2 first thing and the occasional Radio 4 session but given there are about a gazillion and nine stations I'm sure there are some goodies I'm missing.
Criteria...
Nothing you have to concentrate on (so no talk/comedy)
No Rap.
No Euro pop.
Nothing that has anything to do with any x-factor garbage
No angst ridden Seattle garage bands
No truly mad Jazz
Nothing too "invasive"
Anyone got any tips?

I usually listen to Radio 2, but occasionally I pop over to Planet Rock. They give you a mix of songs from the last 30/40 yrs.
Although Sky give you an abundance of radio channels too.

Depends how "Daily Mail" Radio 2 gets after Chris goes home. And I hate Steve Wright with every fibre of my being!
And... why do DnB DJs have to constantly fade in "Shouts to the scrote krew" Not on R2 of course!

Jeremy Vine is ok when you are driving, but I wouldn't listen in the house.
I don't like Radio 1, its terrible, and I'm not keen on local radio stations as its full of guff.
Although, it is rather amusing watching my two year old doing the Gangnam style and singing in Korean :)
Got to catch him on vid yet though

I like the Absolute Radio site. There's 80's, 90's, classic rock and so on...

There's also an app for digi radio out and about.
Pete ;)
Problem is far too many ads on Absolute. I do like the Dave Gorman pod casts though. I have a few to catch up with but unfortunately it's now come to an end. Dave Gorman is my preferred podcast for the train to work.

I listen in the van so only have normal stations but I usually listen to jack fm.
Used to listen to 'the breeze' when it first rebranded but now it's just gone normal and boring like all the other stations.

I listen to jack also but they constantly play the same songs day in and day out so stopped. However the past 2 weeks that I've switched back they seem to have got a better playlist.
On digital I like planet rock but the adds can get annoying and also like real xs (i think?...... its 106.1 when your passing manchester land) they do a 30 min non stop music at some points in the day.

Wrighty has good and bad days

Sorry I hope Jeremy Vine doesn't come back from Burma, his is the one show that spoils my Radio 2 day
The only thing that pizzes me off about R2 is hearing the record of the week more than once a day, plus the others on the playlist.
I will be entering pop master one day

LOL, I did say 'ok' in the car, in which I mean, I don't spend much time in it, so can be tolerated for a short period!
One slot I find hilarious is on Thursday nights, I think?. The amount of time I've turned on the radio and been greeted by something that could only be played in an old cinema or Blackpool Tower ballroom! Organ playing makes me giggle. :)

We nows what use waz on about Dizz.
When you're down this way pay a visit to here and hear it for real, its quite an impressive organ, or Wurlitzer

Radio 2 goes down the pan after 7pm except for Jo Wylie sometimes when I'm working in the garage.
What about an online streaminng service such as LastFM, then you can choose the music you want to hear

I performed in a show at Blackpool Tower when I was in the Girls Brigade, and I've heard the Wurlitzer there....maybe thats why I laugh so much at it?

I present the occasional Black Metal show on our station, how ever I keep getting in trouble for having a potty mouth and playing rude songs from South Park! For this reason my show goes out at three AM during the week. :-(
Our station is on auto most of the day, so is mainly rock music and a few new unsigned bands. From Six PM most evenings though, we have real presented shows. Except on Friday, when they start at three PM. :D

See if you can get The Arrow on DAB. Bit patchy around here but no ads or DJs and good mix of different rock genres.

Last FM used to be good as you choose artists or genres etc and it just plays music non stop. A friend recently showed me 8tracks and thats the same but seems more user uploaded content and playlist they have created which is probably better than the computer choosing music from similar genres.
