View Full Version : Radar Detectors
People of the Org. Now, im more than aware of the grey laws that surround such devices, but has anyone got a proper radar detector that detects laser and all the bands/speed camera types etc? If so is it any good and has it saved your bacon at any point?
More than happy to take answers via PM if you do not wish to incriminate yourself :)

No but I'll be watching this thread with interest, I do know the automatic garage and gate openers that rely on a sensor on your car jam the handheld lasers, but, and it's a big but, you must be able to prove you have a legitimate reason to have one on your car, ie get a door opener in your garage :)

off topic, but a colleague was done in (Belgium I think, but might be Holland). Knowing they were illegal where he was, he had put his in the boot. A plod saw the mounting bracket and searched his car. He was arrested for it and immediately hit with a fine of €400 which he had to pay to get his car released.

I would think a laser detector would be a waste of time as you're likely pinged by the time you've noticed the warning and almost certainly before you've had chance to slow down.
Maybe some IR diodes on same wavelength to try and jam them but dunno.
Had a freind who had one.
Snooper .
It saved him in canvey . The sneak was behind s car it was a dual Carriege way with a 40mph .Man it goes nuts when it pics up.but enough stray signals it gave enough warning.
Second time there other half was driving down the Essex regiment way.
Jumped on the brakes the car locked up .
Gets a tug and a balling out.mised the box as its on sun visor .
Its about 9 years old and owes them nothing.
Allegedly ......

Hmmm maybe I'll take it off your hands :P
Right so why would you want a radar for bikes, don't quite understand what they're for /do
This is for the car josh. The law has changed a few times over the years going form illegal to own one, to what i believe is the current law of, its not illegal to have one, and to use it however, as soon as you react to it telling you that there is a speed trap then thats when you effectivly break the law. It may have changed since then.
Im not one for hooning about everywhere and im pretty conciuos of my speed (Ok, the current 6 points may contradict that) but its for the momentary lapses in concentration (Where my 6 points came from)
I think its the same with TomTom fixed camera warnings in Europe. TomTom sell the updates for each country, however they have to be turned off as its illegal to have them switched on. So it is down to you to use them or not. It is fine to sel but not use. Backwards isn't it?
