What a good idea

It seems that that Amsterdam has a problem with 'anti-social' tenants & 'nuisance' neighbours.

Their solution?

Simple - create 'Scum Villages' where the above will be exiled from the city and rehoused in caravans or containers with "minimal services" under constant police supervision.

Now why didn't we think of that?

Yes, within reason I think it is a good idea, when I say 'within reason' I think care needs to be taken over quite what is considered to constitute anti social behaviour. I can imagine that such a system could be misused.

But I'm not against it at all, I think people should experience the consequences appropriate to their actions. I can already hear a shyster human wrongs lawyer squealing though.

If the Dutch, who are far more 'lenient' / easy going / 'progressive' than we are over Human Rights, plan to implement this then I don't see that any of our British Shysters have a leg to stand on - or is that just wishful thinking?

Great idea but of course nobody would want such a place anywhere near them...

Part of me does wonder if we'd end up with super-ferral-villains as a consequence. After a couple of generations they fight back, with only a bearded vigilante on a badly modded trail bike festooned with rubbish fake missiles to save us. So basically, let's go for it but make sure we all have Chuck on speed dial first!

This solution is fine, but it only works if you sterilize the adults to prevent a constant turn over of new scum, otherwise you're just creating a breading ground of vermin.

I spend a fair bit of time in Holland, I have family there (Amsterdam) and we often have Dutch news in the house, but this is news to me.

I agree with Fallout; unless you sterilise the adults and take existing kids away from them, you're going to create ghettos and store up problems for the future. Even so, as someone who has had to contact the council about neighbours being a PITA on several occasions, I think having a no go area full of scum* 10 miles away from my house is preferable.

If it works with those figures: £810,000 for 13,000 complaints resolved, that's £62 per complaint. If you have had any visibility of council spending in the UK on scum, you will know that is very, very cheap social problem solving.

*sorry, "Anti-social families" is too verbose. :P

But as an idea it has merits but also some huge drawbacks - isnt that how the favellas in places likeBrazil started out and look at them now, more powefully armed than the army / police and far more desperate so willing to kill anything that is a threat to them be it man, woman or child.

How about a floating island that can be dragged far out to see, that way as the fizzy ones says they can fight it out amongst themselves and be no real threat to us normal* people.


*i use this term sparing and selectively, i dont know many normal people and most of you on this thread tat i do know are not "normal" in any way, and I thank god for it!!!
