OMO and my fellow ORGans. The momentous days is here! Well, the momentous day that about 4 of you have been waiting for. :D Carnage Live has launched on Kickstarter! :smt071
Carnage Live is a game project I have been working on with the help of a financial backer. Unfortunately times got tight, my backer got poor, I got poor and the game now hangs in the balance. In order to raise the funds to get the game complete and to prevent me starving to death it has now been launched on Kickstarter*.
If anyone is interested in PC games, please take a look. If you like the sound of it, please consider pledging for a reward. If you aren't interested it's worth watching the video anyway. It features 5 ORGers, chainsaws and axes and basically a lot of foolishness, so it's worth a watch for a laugh.
You can check the project out here! (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tgc/carnage-live)
Anyway, cheers for your interest and I welcome comments on the game, **** taking out of the video, slagging off and whatever else you deem appropriate. :D

* For those who don't know, Kickstarter is a crowd funding system where you pledge money to support projects in exchange for a reward. If a target funding amount is met, everyones money is taken and their rewards provided. The project then gets the money. If the target isn't met, nobody pays anything and it's just one big failure and the person who started the project is taken outside and shot. Make sense?

I'm impressed.
Is it all built from scratch or are you using a COTS engine?

My laptop crashed 11 times trying to watch it on Facebook. I've only had my laptop 3 days and you are trying to break it.
Let's revert to plan A, and play naked baby oiled Twister. No internet connection required.

Claire, you either bought a rubbish laptop, or your handling of it is as hamfisted as your fist, which I heard is actually made out of a giant fist shaped piece of ham.

Have you tried promting your game on social media, that seems to work well with crowd funding.

As much as it's completely against my nature to compliment you Simon, that does actually look pretty decent..

Thanks gents. It's a tall order to raise the money, and I'm not confident it's gonna work. It's the minimum we can possibly get the game done for, but Kickstarter is pretty flooded these days. Fingers crossed, otherwise Carnage get's shelved AGAIN (it started in 2005!!!).

The way I look at it the game creators last offering got 20k by the target date and that seemed like much more of a niche market.

Yeah that's true, plus they were asking for more cash for each reward, but they had a big audience of existing users already. At least half of that was raised by their drive to existing users. I don't have an appropriate existing user base, nor much publicity for the game because we haven't reached the stage where we can build a community. It'll be a close cut thing!
One idea to raise awareness is try and create some viral videos. Over XMAS and expect to recruit the GM to do a lot of stupid things in front of the camera in order to promote it. There's a beer and a tickle in it for everyone, as before!

I'm always recruitable for stupid things. As long as they're stupid enough.

I'm thinking a Carnage based xmas song with lots pain and weapons. e.g.
"On the 6th day of Christmas my true love gave to me ...
"6 shotguns shooting
"FIIIIIIVE SEEVVERRREEEDD HEEEEEADDDS"
"4 wheeled terror
"3 eyeball pokes
"2 upper cuts"
"And an open fracture for my knee"
The ideas are already formulating!

If you can get hold of a dslr with fast lens, then I'll shoot a video for you though I do charge expenses for free jobs. I have film going into grading next week, once its complete which should hopefully be a week then you can watch it. I have an awesome idea of how to make the ninja appear and disappear on film.

Looks like an awesome game.
What are your time scales? Both basic and stretch. Is there scope if you get the full stretch to release the basic, adding on patches or updates as the stretch targets are met. Is this a purely PC game?

Thanks mate. Any additional videos would just be quickly thrown together things for a bit of fun though, but I'll definitely bear that in mind.

Cheers dude. Yep, it's just a PC game for now, but could be ported if it was successful and possible. Initial thoughts are it'd suit PSN and XBox Live, but that's outside the scope at the moment.
The basic plan is to have it available from Feb 2014. People who support the game with the beta rewards will be playing it much earlier and when multiplayer support is switched on they'll be able to play against other beta testers online.
The original plan for the stretch goal content was to share the load with an additional developer, but the patched update idea is a good one and worth thinking about. That way we can make the money stretch further and get more done, plus do away with the complexities of expanding the team. In any case, the rough estimate would be an additional month for each stretch goal target met.
For anyone who wants to have a play ASAP though, the beta access reward for £15 is obviously the way to go and this would also give you the opportunity to feedback your experience and help refine the game once the game website is setup. :)

I think the video showed that.
Was a bit worried about the two giggling, erm, people in the loo...

No worries dude, the only thing I would add is that if you get something good in the can and it goes viral not only will it spread the word but if you get enough hits you may get a kick back from advertising revenue. Best of luck.

yeah, me and nathan don't know who they were, just two passing doppelgangers.
@metalmonkey: the upside down ninja was the best we could do with the budget and stuntmen available, shame it was a bit on the dark side.

I showed my dad the video, he found it highly amusing but I'm afraid he's not going to invest.
