Anyone on here do trials riding - recreational or competing?
If so what do you ride?
What bike did you start on?
What kit do you need, and what can you get by with?
What's most important to look for in a second hand trials bike?
Are there any good forums?

I quite like watching that so when you do some, can we see some footage etc?

Mate dabbled a while ago in this. He practiced his **** off on a crappy mountain.
Then got a gas gas 300cc.
i had a beta rev 3 250 cc trials bike to mess about on and it was plenty powerful, a bit strange to use the kick start as it was on the " wrong "side of the engine never did any competitions and sold it when they shut down the flappits quarry near halifax, good fun though

BETA Rev 3. Did one competition - a lot of standing around looking at the ground and very little riding - consensus => not for me!

A mate of mine is into trials riding....he`s had every type and size under the sun. He says the best made trials bikes are the montessa....they come under the honda group. they`re a little heavier than some of the others but at about 70kg they`re not what you`d call a heavy bike, they tend to hold there value better too.

There's a place near to us where you can go and ride your heart out, so planning on doing it with some mates rather than competing in competitions.
Sounds like the Beta is a fine machine from the above for what I'll need, I'll definitely keep it in mind.
And nice to see you about Blue ;)
My mates did it for fun at flappit quarry and a place over Rochdale way that was organized. Couple if them tried competing and found the same thing, lots of standing around waiting for your turn-boring! I used to go up flappits also on my ccm then a cr125 till it closed. Shame cos it could have been brilliant if organized properly/safely.

:salut:
The world of trials bikes is pretty slow moving (pardon the pun). There aren't really the development 'leaps' you see in other forms of motor-sport. So a 6yr old bike really isn't going to be significantly 'worse' than a new one technology wise.
The Rev 3 was/is used by LOTS of trails amateurs.
The Michelins are the tyres to go for on trials bike (again, there is pretty much no trials tyre development). look for 'sharp edges' on the blocks to judge wear. If the edges are not sharp, it is fecked! Not a problem, but consider this in purchase price.

Yup. Maybe once a month, very recreational.:)
Various spots only one official though, a Trials school/ training area : https://en-gb.facebook.com/BobMacGregorTrialsAcademy Superb facility, get completely shown up by fearless, rubber boned 12yr olds. And my last near death experience on a motorcycle. :smt051:)
Started on a mates Sherco 250 (sub a grand)

Now on a borrowed Gas Gas 280. (Mate has two + chopped his old 911turbo for a VW van)

Whadda ya need? ...A van! (Open face lid as a full face is too restrictive and you will soak it with sweat in no time, Cat boots, old HG jacket with back protector, any old light w/p trousers, pair of A*road/MX gloves that I usually use abroad on hols.)

Cool, just need to move house first and then looks like all I need from the above is the bike and helmet!
