Hello all,

im picking up my new SV650 this sunday, so will be finally getting me mits on a V-twin.

Been riding bikes for a while now, and used to own a company in west berkshire building road racing bikes before moving up to bristol, and now work for the RAC, so new to the area.

all seems to be a good giggle in this place, so thought id say hi.

Hello and welcome, did you come up with the name 'Borile' just 'cos you like it, or do you own one?

If the latter then; pics please :D

Hello from near Bristol. However I do not ride a motorcycle, I can't stand them because they are noisy and smelly. Actually, I don't know why I came here, I am really in to knitting but every one was so friendly I stayed. :D

I'm picking the bike up from Fowlers tomorrow morning, so if you see a bloke looking rather nervous coming out of there on a blue 09 plate that's most likely me.

Brizzle? What is that?

http://m.urbandictionary.com/#define?term=Brizzle

It's a slang name used by local bristolians as an alternative name for the city. It's also a regional slang dialect of sorts. The Brizzle dictionary is a fun read and has tonnes of local variations on standard English.

No its not.

Having grown up in Bristol, living there for some 20+ years with most of my family coming from there and still living there I have never, ever, ever, heard a Bristolian use the word "Brizzle".

However back to bikes I want to see some pics of Borile's bikes, a '62 Thunderbird you say...

Yes, it is.
Fair enough if you haven't heard of it but I assure you it's out there and has been for many years. In fact it's probably a lot less well known/used now than it was by previous generations. My grandparents and loads of there friends still come out with the odd phrase and so do many people I know of a similar era, not to mention people my own age. I'm Bristol born and raised as are my whole family going back many generations.
I've provided two links to back this up but by all means do your own research.

Anyway, bit of a derail. I just wanted to extend a friendly welcome to the op.

Yes the word has been around for sometime. As I understand it the word was invented to sell a particular book. But I've never heard anyone from Bristle use it. All of the other phrases I recognise (and use...) its just that one word that has always puzzled me after coming to light a couple of years back...

But yes lets stop this derail. Bikes, I want to see bikes!

Ok last one I promise. This is a list of common nicknames for uk cities. It's on Wikipedia and makes no mention of modern commercial origins?

...
Really? Are you sure?
Here's some examples of org threads where bristolians and others use the word Brizzle in place of Bristol. I'm sure you're familiar with a few of the post authors and I notice you've even posted in some of them yourself with no complaint over the use of the word or questioning its meaning? In fact one of your posts sits directly below a 'brizzle post'....
Just type Brizzle into the search function and it'll throw up well over 20 examples on this forum alone.

Breathe, Rant over :). It's a good job this is in IB, still off topic though I admit but I loves a nice debate lol.

What's the mileage? If it's really low it might be the case that the bike is still wearing the original tyres being a 2009. If so It may be worth going a bit steady if it's cold or wet when you pick it up. The D220's don't have a great reputation AFAIK and most people choose to swap them fairly early on.
I would expect a 3 year old bike to have had new tyres at some stage so don't let me spook you but you never know? Fowlers are a big store so I imagine it's had a good looking over, Just a kind word of caution.

Best of luck with the new toy and roll on spring! Brrrr

Check out the reference from from Wikipedia and the link from the BBC artical... Coincidence?

As for the other posts I think some of them might well know my feelings on the word and they would never try to wind me up. Besides I know for sure that one of those quoted is a dirty foreigner from over the bridge.

Yeah all in good humor, I do enjoy a good rant though.

Its got less than 8k on the clocks and had had a new rear fitted recently, so won't be passing it to far just yet.

As for pictures of the bikes, well the thunder bird is in several boxes at the moment, due to me not having a garage to store it, and I've only got the SV home today so been playing with the kids,

As for the term "brizzle", I've heard it a few times, mainly said by those who frequent the beir keller, but I've only been living here for 4 months, and I've not been out and about very often.

I have had a quick look in there, may well be more active during the Warner months on the social side of things, mainly as I have two kids and number 3 is due in may, and as the missus is a nurse we can get rather busy over the winter period
