Hi guys,

Normally I'm quite good with computer issues, but this one's got me stumped. One of my workmates gave me an Acer Aspire 5536 to change the screen on. Original screen wouldn't power up and was cracked, screen changed, new screen still won't power up, but if I plug an HDMI cable in I can see it all on an external display. It's an LED screen so there's no inverter. Any other ideas?

yup. more than likely it has taken the graphics chip out when the screen blew.

That's beginning to look like the case, as it happens, my mum has the same laptop, so I swapped screens and cables still to no avail. Everything that came out of the broken laptop worked in the working one, so the parts are fine, must be motherboard damage then!

Hmmmm, I don't know that particular laptop, but generally if the graphics chip has gone the exterior screen option won't work either, even on the LED screens they have a small board inline from the main board to the screen, it could be that?
