The Conti Motions I slapped on the Pointy seem pretty good in the wet.

I'm running bridgestone 023's at the moment not bad at all. Had pirelli diabalo some thing or other on before front was good didn't like the rear in the wet broke traction rather easily. But most sport touring tyres nowadays should be more than adequate in the wet.

+1 on the Avon storms! Had them on both my sv's, and my old gixxer, never had a wobble or a slip with them in the wet, snow, ice or sun!

BRO, RBO or RABO - whichever, it doesn't matter, question asked a gazillion times and the same answer results - 'the ones I have are great - the ones I had were rubbish'. A balanced response to this question is something few people can do.

add to that: the ones I hate last forever.

I don't have enough experience on a SV650 but I am currently running Michelin Pilots. Seem okay - couple of twitchy moments but that's more down to me than the tyre.

Awesome tyre, also consider conti road attacks.

bridgestone bt21s came on my sv. I was really happy when I took them out in the wet.

Pet hates;
Z6s... these have a stupid tread design, if you square it off at all it can have loads of tread left, but be down to the cords in the middle.
Dunlops (even the new uns) feel a little wooden to me.

Avon storm ultras, excellent, had a few of these.

PR3, feels fine, excellent in the wet but does look like it will get shredded on a hot day. However seeing someone on an EXUP at a race meet with them on they looked to last better than expected.

Loads of people say whatever tyre they had previously was crap just because of the shock when they get their new tyres fitted which have profile to them.

Speed Cost Mony,Same as grip
How much Grip can "You" afford?
Conti motion on the curvey were cheap and fine.(last year)
Maxxis sports touring on the ZX6r are ultra cheap and absoultly fine.No issues mondays cold (+3 ish)
Dunlop qualifers originaly on the ZX6r didnt like the cold .But dry very good.
Conti road attac on the RSVR are fine in the autum rain(about 7+ 'c) ,
But not tried them in the cold and wet its not turned a wheel since the temp went past 6'C

I had Road Pilot 2's fitted to my 1200 Bandit loved 'em, better than the Avon Azoros that came with the SV

Agree with Yorkie Chris about the Z6's which squared off really quickly so changed to PR3's which have so far been excellent giving loads of confidence in both the wet and the dry.

Just to clarify I've not got any particular experience of whether they square off worse than anything else... just that I didn't like the fact they could go from looking passable one minute to completely sh*gged the next.

It has caught at least half a dozen people I know of out on tours and long trips!

my opinions and not all on a sv

Avon storm 2 ultra, last a decent amount of time about 6k rear and 8k front, good in the wet, not the sportiest of tyre but not bad, decent in the dry, good warranty and service from cooper (people that own avon) all in all a very good all round tyre if not a bit numb when cracking on But i highly recommend especially for the price

Maxxis supermax (old style) very good in the dry, utter sh*t in cold wet conditions, good summer tyre but would not recommend (not sure on ware rate)

conti road attack2 pretty amazing tyres in the dry conditions as are very soft and stick like no other tyre i have used, decent in the wet, warm up fast, the feedback from the front was also very very good BUT the rear lasted 3500 miles and the front 5000 miles and that was mostly motor way miles (good for sunday bikers but not distance riders)

Pilot road 3 (rear only at the moment) wow what a tyre, costs a small fortune £150 at trade, but is very very good in the wet and very good in the dry not quite as much feedback as Road attack 2's or grip but still very good, the construction is very stiff so not the most comfortable of tyre, the best bit though is the ware rate im at 4000 miles now and theres 0% flat spot and about 6mm of depth to the ware marker, i should add that one of our customers with a datona 675 got 30k out of a set of these highly recommend

i have use BT021's as well and found them to be decent if a bit numb but didn't do enough miles to really find out what they were like

So, that question is comprehensively answered then, as there is a clear consensus.

Not.

Not.

There's always going to be some personal preference, and having to pick through all the people who've had one bike and one set of tyres saying "this is what's on my bike so that's best" :P

Next, which slip on exhaust is best?

That's so true Chris .
Corsa 3 on my 'prillia .
Gecho had same bike n tyres hated them.
Me I was happy with them .

Oh find a rubbish tyre and let us know to avoid it,as every thing else has a good or bad points.

At the end of the day the only way to find what you like is to buy them and try them , the best info from personal opinions is ware rate and that could vary buy a large margine rider to rider

And Chris we all know that the shortest and loudest is the "best" or should I say the most fun :-P

At the risk of throwing in a balanced and experienced opinion (and apologies in advance for name dropping), but we had a couple of the journo's from Ride magazine pop into the hotel recently and I asked this very question.

They both reckon the new Michelin PR3's are as good a tyre as they've ever ridden on, and it's now become the default answer to 'what tyre should I get for my XYZ'. They used to tailor their answer depending on the type of bike/weather/riding you say you do, but for anything other than serious track use, PR3's are the way to go in their opinion.

For what it's worth, that was good enough for me - stuck a set on the SV and very happy with them so far.

I may get PR3's next. My budget wouldn't stretch that far this time.

7921 miles on PR3s after a puncture, which proves 2 things:
a) the tyres are great
b) I REALLY am an old fart!

on my fourth or fifth set of avon vipers, used all year round in whatever weather (with the odd trackday thrown in for good measure) and the bike is now on approximately 60k miles. they've been fantastic for me and best of all i think is that they haven't hurt the old wallet too badly either.
