Hey guys,

Moving from Plymouth (SW area - rather quiet on the meet front) to Aldershot in Jan - doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out why. ;)

I'm looking for some SV buddies, had mine about 6 months, just got it back from the re-sprayers after throwing down the road in the recent cold spell.

I really need some advice on:

1. How not to keep throwing my bike down the road.
2. Where locally I could get to finish the cosmetics/ mods.
3. Any local advice on maintenance because I suck.
4. Most importantly where can I get a good wet (brew) on a Sunday morn.

Otherwise I'm well up for some ride outs to get my confidence back and learn the local area.

Cheers

Bordtea

Hi mate, good to see another addition to the GM :D

1. Don't ride when its cold ;) Get yourself some crash bobbins to protect the bike somewhat if it does happen again

2. Avoid a place called Bisley Coachworks. Myself & Jam can both testify to their ****ness...

3. Don't know about Aldershot but Nick Robinson's in Basingstoke(ish) is pretty decent.

4. Your wife

And finally, welcome :D

Navy? Airforce? Out of ideas! :D As for the rest ...

1. Crashing is bad. Don't do it!
2. See Jammy for how not to do it!
3. Plenty of advice to be had from all here on bike maintenance. Just ask and we'll help. I don't think many of us take our bikes to garages for servicing.
4. Loomies is where we normally go, or Alton Station cafe. They're your two localish bike haunts now.

Welcome on board mate. :riding: :salut:

The other guys have pretty much covered the points ;)
Just up the road in North Cmap is Infinity Motorcycles who do servicing, however i have never used them and don't know anyone who has so can't comment on their work or prices.
A place i can recommend is Haslemere Motorcycles, based in Bordon. I've not had my bike serviced there but i do buy a lot of parts from there and use the knowledge of their parts/service mechanics.
In regards to a Brew, there are quite a number of places we visit on a rideout/meet up that make a decent cuppa

Welcome to the GM

The last time I use them was shortly after buying my 1st SV from them as they gave me a discount on a service.
A very poor service it was too!
Was booked in for a "Full service" they only changed the rear spark plug, didn't replace the air filter, oil filter was replaced but the oil was still very dark when I checked it.

But that was a few years ago now so they may be better now it's "the bike shop"

I rarely take the bikes to shops for work, they go to Normandy motorcycles for their MOTs though and they're pretty good down there, i've been using htem for MOTs since about 1997!

Don't hit a deer, don't listen to bordteas advice on wet riding, and don't go to Alton on a Sunday, they're closed.

Loomies is always good as are the roads down to it but there's plenty of other places we ride and drink tea.

Navy, strangely, kinda lost the sea again....but something different should be appealing,
Well up for a ride out once I'm settled.

Don't worry I hear you can get a surprisingly large class of dingy on the river black water.

Just don't speak to jammy on practical matters generally I think.

He's still in the learning phase so get advice off others and then find out from jammy what went wrong when he tried it.

Lol.

As requested, before I threw it down the road - Crash Bungs are for winners now, best £80 I ever spent.

would you like some more black with that sir?

Welcome to the mighty GM, just out of interest, you dont live in field stores way or something do you?

If you are looking for servicing round here, do it yourself, or i have heard good things of Spannerman on here who is sort of local. could make it a nice ride:)

See you about soon!

Should be good, Got the panels back a few days ago and they look Mega. Still a little to touch up + some bits I wanted doing anyway (After Xmas), due to cost perhaps bit by bit.

To fix
New Mirror
New Indicator bracket
Replace Screen - Zero Gravity DB.
Replace Grips - (Any advice, am thinking Renthal Dual Layers)
Cosmetic Work to very tip of Endcan (the rear stainless steel bracket got scuffed in the crash - was going to cover with R+G Exhaust Crash Protector - any thoughts).

Because I want to
Replace Levers with Pazzo's
Replace brake lines with Hel Braided
Respray small scratch on tank - there when purchased.
Powder coat rear set - previous owner did a **** job and I want it better (was looking at http://www.altamura.co.uk/ because they are in Camberley)
Small plate - I have tiny, but got tugged, but what I have now is MASSIVE!!!

Tomor- No mate, I haven't moved yet - Jan 14 lucky me. The photos are local to Devon.

Its not black its Pearl Nebular Black lol.

I'm not sure I'm up for self servicing, well not of the bike anyway. I'm keen to learn though ;)

You won't get much advice on cosmetic mods from us lot. Jammy and boardtea like their shiny levers but the rest of our bikes normally need a clean, many cosmetically ropey, just there for riding. :) New shiny stuff doesn't stay shiny for long, and then you're all paranoid scratches and scuffs. It's more fun when you don't need to worry. ;)

TCochrane

I cleaned the rear shock before I put it in today xD I know it's going to get dirty in 2 seconds but I'll always clean my bike and be paranoid about scratches
keep your bike in top condition and it'll do the same to you!

We dont mind shiny things(see fallouts frame). What we don't like is when you spend all your money on shiny things and don't ride the damn thing!!(Dan)

There's a powdercoaters in Aldershot I've used them a few times, not a bad price and do a good job. They're kind of an old school company, no website etc
These are the last bits I had done

And now for the sensible response ......

Welcome to the GM. Congratulations on stumbling into the right bit of the country. As a group we try and get out as much as possible and do our best to accommodate all sorts of riders apart from complete tits. Come out with us a couple of times and you'll soon work out who is worth listening to for maintenance advice, riding advice, route advice and of course who to completely ignore (Mostly Bordtea for the latter). As soon as Christmas is out of the way keep your eye out for a ride-out. If there isn't one, just stick in a post demanding one and doubtless one will appear. This approach worked well for our previous shy and retiring, if slightly camp, military type Chucklebunny. Can easily collect you from Aldershot to save you having to find the meet venues on your own.

And most importantly we will need details of your shift patterns and a picture of your missus.

@DD, Does that look a lot like Law's old bike to you? Even down to the scuffed kick plates!
